The Lesson Jimmy Durante Learn From A Performance

Jimmy Durante was asked to do a show for World War II veterans. He told them his schedule was busy but he would come do a short monologue and immediately leave for another performance. He finished his monologue and then started on another. And then another. The applause grew louder and louder.

Finally, after a thirty-minute presentation, he left to the loud applause of the crowd.

The director of the benefit met Mr. Durante backstage and asked, “What happened? I thought you had to go after a few minutes”.

Jimmy answered, “I did, but I can show you the reason I stayed.” He pointed to two men, each of whom had lost an arm in the war, sitting on the front row. One had lost his right arm and the other had lost his left. Sitting next to each other they were able to clap using the single hand of the other. Are you grateful?
