Heb 11: 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report.

I had a hard time explaining this scripture until I heard a preacher say that when he was a young boy his family was very poor. If they had ham and red eye gravy the Father would eat first without the children and would eat the ham. They were too poor for everyone to have a piece of ham and the Father didn’t want to eat it in front of his children. The children would then come to the table and eat the red eye gravy and biscuits. The red eye gravy tasted like the ham, but wasn’t the ham. It was just substance and proof that the ham had been there.
