Seeking God, Man’s Greatest Pursuit

Key Verse: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” — Matthew 6:33

The Greatest Search of All

We spend our lives searching—searching for peace, purpose, love, and success. But the truth is, everything we really need flows from seeking God first. When we chase the things of this world, we end up empty. When we chase after God, He fills our cup until it overflows.

Seeking God isn’t a one-time act; it’s a daily pursuit. It’s not about finding Him once—it’s about walking with Him continually.

A Short Story

A man once asked an old preacher, “How can I find God?” The preacher led him to a nearby river, took him by surprise, and dunked him underwater for a few seconds. When the man came up gasping for air, the preacher said, “When you seek God with the same intensity that you just sought your next breath, you will find Him.”

That story reminds us: we must desire God more than comfort, convenience, or approval.

How to Seek God Daily

Start Your Day with Him. Before you scroll, before you stress—pray. Even a short “Lord, guide me today” can set the tone for your entire day. Spend Time in His Word. The Bible is not just a book; it’s a living conversation with God. Read a verse and ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me here?” Listen in the Quiet. God often speaks in stillness. Step away from the noise. Let your heart be quiet long enough to hear His whisper. Seek His Will Above Yours. Sometimes seeking God means surrendering what we want. Say, “God, I want what You want—even if it looks different than my plan.” Surround Yourself with Others Who Seek Him. Fellowship fuels faith. Spend time with people who point you toward God, not away from Him.

When God Feels Distant

Even the strongest believers go through seasons when God seems far away. In those times, don’t stop seeking—keep pressing forward. Like the sunrise after the longest night, His presence will break through again. Remember Jeremiah 29:13:

“You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

A Prayer for Today

“Lord, I want to know You more. Teach me to seek You with my whole heart. Help me not to get distracted by what the world offers but to keep my eyes on You. Let my thoughts, words, and actions lead me closer to You each day. Amen.”

Reflection Questions

What’s one thing that’s been distracting me from seeking God lately? How can I make time every day for prayer or quiet reflection? What might change in my life if I truly put God first?

Today’s Challenge

Take five minutes today to step outside, breathe, and simply say, “Lord, I’m seeking You.” Don’t rush it. Let your heart settle into His peace.

Quote for the Day

“Seek God. You’ll find purpose. Seek purpose. You’ll find peace. Seek peace. You’ll find God was there all along.”
