People working for material things are making themselves fly bait. They work to acquire material things. As a result, they are attractive to people who admire the material things they have acquired and who put on a pretense of being their friend. (They are attracted by the material things just as flies are attracted by food).
However, when those material things are gone or are no longer as attractive, the “flies” leave. So we are encouraged not to make ourselves give up resources we could be using to acquire rich spiritual privileges in order to pursue the material things of this world and become “fly bait.” (Doesn’t sound very appealing when it’s put that way, does it?)
