The Power Of Being A Good Friend

“A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” — Proverbs 17:17

In a world where relationships can sometimes feel shallow or temporary, being a true friend is one of the greatest gifts you can offer someone.

Friendship is more than just sharing laughs during good times—it’s about standing strong in difficult times. A true friend doesn’t disappear when life gets hard. They draw closer. They listen, they encourage, and they lift others up when they can’t stand on their own.

Being a friend means choosing loyalty over convenience.

Anyone can be around when things are going well, but real friendship is revealed in moments of struggle. It’s in the phone call you make when someone is hurting. It’s in the prayer you whisper on their behalf. It’s in simply showing up when it matters most.

Jesus Himself showed us the greatest example of friendship. He loved, served, and sacrificed for others—even when it cost Him everything. That’s the kind of love that defines a true friend.

Here are a few marks of a genuine friend:

They listen without judging They encourage without tearing down They stay when others walk away They tell the truth with love They pray and care deeply

Friendship isn’t about having many people around you—it’s about being the kind of person others can trust and lean on.

Ask yourself today:

Am I the kind of friend I would want to have?

Sometimes, the greatest way to receive friendship is to first be one. When you invest in others with sincerity and love, you create bonds that can last a lifetime.

And remember—your kindness, your encouragement, your presence… it may mean more to someone than you’ll ever know.

Closing Encouragement

Be intentional today. Reach out to someone. Offer a kind word. Be a steady presence. Because being a true friend isn’t just a role—it’s a calling that reflects the love of God.
