The Story About The $20 Bill

A popular speaker started off a seminar by holding up a $20 bill. A crowd of 200 had gathered to hear him speak. He asked, ‘Who would like this $20 bill?’200 hands went up.

He said, ‘I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this.’ He crumpled the bill up.

He then asked, ‘Who still wants it?’

All 200 hands were still raised.

Well,’ he replied, ‘What if I do this?’ Then he dropped the bill on the ground and stomped on it with his shoes.

He picked it up, and showed it to the crowd. The bill was all crumpled and dirty. Now who still wants it?’

All the hands still went up.

My friends, I have just showed you a very important lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives, life crumples us and grinds us into the dirt. We make bad decisions or deal with poor circumstances. We feel worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. You are special – Don’t ever forget it!’

A Critic By Any Other Name Is Still A Critic

A Critic By Any Other Name Is Still A Critic

Maybe they are  someone people look at as judges. Some feel though they are only calling it like they see it or telling it like it is.

If you have to knock someone else down two notches to elevate yourself one notch, you weren’t anywhere to start with.

They work at the rumor mill where they manufacture things that don’t build anyone or anything up.

Matthew 12:34-37  O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Idle words are words that have no profit or benefit to be spoken. They may have some truth but do nothing to help anyone or their situation.

You can call a Critic someone who wants to hold it like it is, tell it like it is or whatever, but they are still a Critic.

I have trouble with the three C’s– criticize, condemn and complain.

2/17– Start Your Day Off Right Series

Quote:

Story:

“When Dennis Parker and D. W. Rutledge arrived as assistant coaches at Converse Judson High School in San Antonio, Texas, they knew there was something missing in the players they coached—some intangible quality that it took to make a champion. It was clear the team had the talent to be better than it was. Parker understood that problems on the football field were not physical but mental. That’s when these men launched a concept that was initially scoffed at by most of their peers.

Rutledge and Parker ascribed to the Stanford theory that 8 percent of an individual’s success is based on ability, while 92 percent is based on attitude. So they decided to test this “hypothesis and proposed to move kids out of the weight room and into the classroom to teach character development. It wasn’t long before their critics stopped laughing, sat up, and took notice.

The results were astounding. After only one year in the program, Converse Judson went from having a very mediocre season to a winning record of 14 and 1 in 1982. This team of converted athletes then proceeded to seize the Texas AAAAA State Championship the following year.

Stories like this were duplicated time and again over the next fourteen years, as the careers of Parker and Rutledge moved them to coach at high schools and colleges throughout Texas. Their newfound “philosophy turned athletic programs around and led numerous teams to state championships. Suddenly, teams that hadn’t seen victory since 1940 were setting records.

Football scores weren’t the only things to improve. Test scores went up as kids developed confidence and self-esteem. What started as a program whose sole goal was to win football games evolved into a life-changing curriculum. Rutledge and Parker had discovered a gold mine and wanted to share this valuable treasure with as many coaches and kids as possible. Zig Ziglar made that possible by turning Coaching to Change Lives into a published curriculum available to any coach who wanted a practical tool to teach players principles of character, attitude, “integrity, goal setting, self-image, and responsibility. Now these life-changing principles are being taught in classrooms across Texas.

One need only look at the wave of school shootings and youth violence in our country to understand the importance of building character and leadership in our society. Zig has made a positive difference in many lives, but his involvement with the Living to Change Lives Foundation will have an even greater impact. Through his work with young people, he is creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

It doesn’t matter where you’re born, how much money you have, or what your educational level is. What matters is that you recognize you “can make a difference and that God has a purpose for you.”

Scripture:

Luke 17:6

And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

2/17–

A group of seminary students gathered in the chapel one day as the dean challenged them to NOT pray for a large church because of the stress, problems and worries that go with it. The next year one of the students who graduated returned to give his testimony. He said, “I did ask God for a big church; however, I also asked God for a pretty wife. My prayer was ALMOST answered. Instead of getting a big church and a pretty wife, I got a pretty church and a big wife!”

No Matter How Busy You Get, Don’t Forget Your Family

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.  “That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.  “

He’s a fine looking boy”, the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”

Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go, Melissa?”  Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.”  The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart’s content.

Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?”

Again Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”  The man smiled and said, “OK.”  “My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.

The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes with him.

I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.  She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get five more minutes to watch her play.”

Moral of the Story: Life as a student can be downright hectic but as long as your priorities are straight, you’ll be able to make the most out of your hard work. In the story, the man learned the hard way to prioritize his family on top of all others. No matter how busy things get, don’t forget to spend time with people that matters to you!

2/15– Hold your head and your standards high even as people or circumstances try to pull you down.

Story:

Once there were three trees standing on the hillside. There was a oak tree on one side and a pine tree on the other side and then in the middle was a little cedar tree.       One day a mighty storm came through and blew  and the mighty oak tree slid down the hill. The wind kept blowing and in a little while  the pine tree slid down the hill. But when the wind finally stopped blowing, the cedar tree was left standing. The people of that area began to wonder how it was that the cedar tree survived.      They got a their shovels and started digging down and they dug and dug ….down until they saw why the cedar stood while bigger and mightier trees slid down the hill. Its roots has wrapped themselves  around a big huge rock under the ground. So when the winds of the storms and the spiritual storms blow  if you wrap your roots around the Spiritual Rock which is Christ Jesus, you can stand even the mightiest of storms!!

I heard of story of a  man  that was so inflexible that he wouldn’t bend for anything or anybody. He was in a boat with another person who fell out of the boat. He could’ve easily reached down and got a hold of that person but it would require him to bend. So for the sake of his image he let the other person perish!

Scripture:

Ephesians 3:14-20

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Don’t Quit Now, Victory Is Just Ahead

During the gold rush, a man who had been mining in Colorado for several months quit his job, as he hadn’t struck gold yet and the work was becoming tiresome.  He sold his equipment to another man who resumed mining where it had been left off. The new miner was advised by his engineer that there was gold only three feet away from where the first miner stopped digging.

The engineer was right, which means the first miner was a mere three feet away from striking gold before he quit.

The Moral:

When things start to get hard, try to persevere through the adversity. Many people give up on following their dreams because the work becomes too difficult, tedious, or tiresome–but often, you’re closer to the finish line than you may think, and if you push just a little harder, you will succeed.

The Story Of The Sheep And The Rattlesnake

A  rattlesnake bit one of my sheep in the face about a week ago. Deadliest snake that lives around here. The sheep’s face swelled up

 and hurt her terribly.

But the old rattlesnake didn’t know what kind of blood flows through the sheep. Anti-venom is most often made from the sheep’s blood. The sheep swelled for about 2 days but the blood of the lamb fest the venom of the serpent.

Often  the serpents in this life  will reach out and bite us. They inject poison into us but they cannot overcome the Blood Of The Lamb   that washes away sin  of the world and the sting of death.  Don’t worry about the serpent or his bite just make sure the Lamb’s  blood is flowing through your veins
