Story:

“If an airline disclosed that the pilot for a particular flight was terrible at takeoffs and landings, but was reasonably proficient once the plane was airborne, how many of you would rush to buy a ticket for that flight? Would you change your mind if they offered you a deep discount?”

Scripture:

Humor:

Ah – an excellent communication in marriage. Who can find it?

The story is told of a wife who returned home from work to find her husband sitting in his favorite chair devouring the local newspaper. After rummaging around in the kitchen for a time, she said, “Honey, I read today that men speak 2000 words a day and women 4000 words each day.”

In a low growl he muttered, “Uh-huh, I wonder why that is?” The newspaper continued to dominate this fellow.

After a pregnant pause, “I guess it’s due to the fact that women have to repeat everything twice to their husbands.”

After finishing a paragraph in the newspaper, this poor fellow responded, “Huh?”

Ah-communication.

3/16–Can You Spare A Minute?

3/17–10/19–Think yourself happy–It is a choice you know.  Just like going to the soft drink machine and deciding whether you will choose cola or uncola. 

You can think yourself unhappy or happy.It is your choice.  

The Apostle Paul told the ruler he was standing before that “I think myself happy”  to be able to give the answer he was giving him concerning his convictions.  Why would anyone choose to be unhappy?  

But, it seems that some people are so determined to be unhappy that I hate to interupt them and keep them from what they work so hard at!   It is not the weather, or someone else….it is your decision, yours alone.  

Quit abusing yourself and blaming on someone else.  I think it was Pogo who said I met the enemy, and I knew him…it was myself.

Counterfeit Jade

A Chinese boy who wanted to learn about jade went to study with a talented old teacher. This gentle man put a piece of the precious stone into his hand and told him to hold it tight. Then he began to talk of philosophy, men, women, the sun and almost everything under it. After an hour he took back the stone and sent the boy home. 

The procedure was repeated for several weeks. The boy became frustrated. When would he be told about the jade? He was too polite, however, to question the wisdom of his venerable teacher. 

Then one day, when the old man put a stone into his hands, the boy cried out instinctively, ‘That’s not jade!'”

Story:

In the washroom of his London club, British newspaper publisher and politician William Beverbrook happened to meet Edward Heath, then a young member of Parliament, about whom Beverbrook had printed an insulting editorial a few days earlier. “My dear chap,” said the publisher, embarrassed by the encounter. “I’ve been thinking it over, and I was wrong. Here and now, I wish to apologize.” “Very well,” grunted Heath. “But the next time, I wish you’d insult me in the washroom and apologize in your newspaper.”

Scripture:

Matthew 5:23-24

Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

Humor:

The story is told that after sometime in the Garden, Eve grew restless and began to question Adam’s commitment to her.

She inquired, “Adam, do you still love me?”

Adam replied, “There’s no one else but you, honey.”

After thinking through the encounter, Adam inquired of God as to why He made Eve so beautiful.

God replied, “So you would love her.”

Adam continued, “And why did you make her so soft?”

God replied again, “So you would love her,”

Adam pressed on, “And why did you make her so loving?

Again God replied, “So you would love her.”

Finally Adam ventured, “And why did you make her so stupid, God?”

God replied, “So she would love you.” God has a way of humbling us when we need it most.

3/15– Can You Spare A Minute?

3/15–Remember the days that you prayed for the things you have now!

In November, 1975, 75 convicts started digging a secret tunnel designed to bring them up at the other side of the wall of Saltillo Prison in northern Mexico. 

On April 18, 1976, guided by pure genius, they tunneled up into the nearby courtroom in which many of them had been sentenced. The surprised judges returned all 75 to jail.

Story:

During the 17th century, Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England, sentenced a soldier to be shot for his crimes. The execution was to take place at the ringing of the evening curfew bell. However, the bell did not sound. The soldier’s fiancé had climbed into the belfry and clung to the great clapper of the bell to prevent it from striking. 

When she was summoned by Cromwell to account for her actions, she wept as she showed him her bruised and bleeding hands. Cromwell’s heart was touched and he said, “Your lover shall live because of your sacrifice. Curfew shall not ring tonight!” 

Scripture:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
