Charles Francis Adams, 19th century political figure and diplomat, kept a diary. One day he entered: “Went fishing with my son today–a day wasted.” His son, Brook Adams, also kept a diary, which is still in existence. On that same day, Brook Adams made this entry: “Went fishing with my father–the most wonderful day of my life!” The father thought he was wasting his time while fishing with his son, but his son saw it as an investment of time. The only way to tell the difference between wasting and investing is to know one’s ultimate purpose in life and to judge accordingly.

Marriage is one of the greatest journeys two people can take together. It is more than just a contract—it’s a covenant, a daily choice to love, honor, and build a life side by side. Like a garden, marriage requires constant care, patience, and nurturing to thrive.

Too often, people believe that love alone is enough to carry a marriage through every storm. Love is essential, yes—but so are commitment, forgiveness, humility, and teamwork. A successful marriage isn’t built on perfection but on two imperfect people refusing to give up on each other.

Think about it: marriage is not about winning arguments, but about winning together. It’s not about “me” and “you,” but about “us.” It’s choosing to hold hands in hard times, to listen even when it’s inconvenient, and to forgive when it would be easier to keep score.

Strong marriages are the foundation of strong families and communities. When two people stand united, they can weather life’s storms with courage and hope. The true beauty of marriage is that it allows two individuals to grow—not just as partners, but as better versions of themselves, refined through love and shared life.

So today, if you’re married, cherish your spouse. Speak kind words. Show appreciation. Choose to love them not only in feelings but in actions. And if you’re preparing for marriage or praying for it one day, remember this truth: a great marriage doesn’t happen by accident; it is built with intention, patience, and grace.

Let marriage inspire you to practice loyalty, sacrifice, and unconditional love—not only within your home, but in all the relationships of your life.

9/15–One day a father and his rich family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose of showing him how poor people really can be. They spent a day and a night at the farm of a very poor family. When they returned from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?”

“Very good, Dad!”

“Did you see how poor people can be?” the father asked.

“Yeah!”

“And what did you learn?”

The son replied: “I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden; they have a creek that is two miles long. We have imported lamps in the garden; they have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard; they have a whole horizon.” When the little boy finished speaking, his father was speechless. His son added, “Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are.”

People all they do is moan and groan. I’m not making enough money, I’m unhappy with my job! So, the thing about it is this…. all some people do is moan and groan. 

I heard a story about some men on a porch. A man was walking by and heard the dog howling and whining. He asked the men why the dog was whining. They said he was laying on a nail. The man asked them why the dog didn’t get off the nail. He said because it wasn’t hurting enough.
