1/6–Celebrate Your Difference

Story:

A company hired a new CEO. This new boss was determined to rid the company of all slackers.

While taking a tour around the facilities, the CEO noticed a guy leaning on a wall. The room was full of workers and he thought that this was his chance to show everyone he meant business!

The CEO walked up the man and asked, “And how much money do you make?” A bit surprised, the young man looked at him and replied, “I make $ 700 a week. Why do you ask?”

The CEO took out some cash and handed the man $ 700 in cash and then screamed to him, “Here! This is your last pay, now get out because you are fired!”

That was his first firing and he felt pretty good about it! He looked around and asked the workers, “Does anybody know what that slacker did here?” With a grin, one of the workers muttered, “He’s the pizza delivery guy, Sir.””

Scripture:

Matthew 7:1-2

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Anger Is Too Deadly To Even Think About

Anger can be lethal. Dr. Lewis Smedes, one of America’s foremost ethicists, told of writing a book on forgiveness. As a part of the book promotion campaign, he appeared on a talk show where people could call in and respond to what he had said.

One lady called and said her child had been killed by a drunk driver and there was no way she could forgive the driver of the automobile. Before Dr. Smedes could answer her, another lady called and said, “I had the same experience.

Four years ago, a drunk killed my son. For two years I held on to my anger and hoped for revenge. Then one day, I realized that the man who killed my son was killing me.”

Let go of anger or it will destroy you. If you hold onto a lighted match long enough, you are the one who will be burned.

1/5–Being Humble

Story:

1/5—Plato wrote the first sentence of his famous Republic nine different ways before he was satisfied.

Cicero practiced speaking before friends every day for thirty years to perfect his elocution.

Noah Webster labored 36 years writing his dictionary, crossing the Atlantic twice to gather material.

Milton rose at 4:00 am every day in order to have enough hours for his Paradise Lost.

Gibbon spent 26 years on his Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.

Bryant rewrote one of his poetic masterpieces 99 times before publication, and it became a classic.

It is said that Thomas Edison performed 50,000 (sic) experiments before he succeeded in producing a storage battery. We might assume the famous inventor would have had some serious doubts along the way. But when asked if he ever became discouraged working so long without results, Edison replied, “Results? Why, I know 50,000 things that won’t work.”

When You Try To Get Even, You Just Get Hurt

Some people love to get even. Clint Eastwood does it. Rambo did it. On the old television show know as AMOS AND ANDY, Amos was extremely distraught over a guy who kept poking his finger on Amos’ chest every time he spoke to him.

Either too small or too scared to challenge the fellow physically, Amos explained his game plan to Andy in saying, “I’m going to put nitroglycerin on my chest and the next time he pokes at me he will blow his finger off!”

When you try to get even—you get hurt. Relationships are built on the basis of love—which keeps no record of wrongs and forgives!

The Story Of Elisha And Making Room

And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread. And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.

Title:  Air Tower

Illustration:  If a pilot in an airplane disregards the instructions of the airfield tower and crashes, causing much damage and strife, do you conclude that there is no airfield tower?

No, there are many other aircraft landing safely with instructions from that same tower.

Do we reason the same way with the existence of a Creator? Just because there are those who are not listening to Him and causing much heartache and pain, does that prove that God does not exist?

The Story Of The Three Trees In The Storm

Once there were three trees standing on the hillside. There was an oak tree on one side and a pine tree on the other side and then in the middle was a little cedar tree.

One day a mighty storm came through and blew  and the mighty oak tree slid down the hill. The wind kept blowing and in a little while  the pine tree slid down the hill. But when the wind finally stopped blowing, the cedar tree was left standing.

The people of that area began to wonder how it was that the cedar tree survived.      They got a their shovels and started digging down and they dug and dug ….down until they saw why the cedar stood while bigger and mightier trees slid down the hill. Its roots has wrapped themselves  around a big huge rock under the ground.

So when the winds of the storms and the spiritual storms blow  if you wrap your roots around the Spiritual Rock which is Christ Jesus, you can stand even the mightiest of storms!!

I couldn’t decide whether to go to Salt Lake City or Denver for vacation, so I called the airlines to get prices. “Airfare to Denver is $300,” the cheery salesperson replied. “And what about Salt Lake City?” “We have a really great rate to Salt Lake—$99,” she said “But there is a stopover.” “Where?” “In Denver,” she said.
