How Your Words Are Like A Feather In The Wind

A certain good woman one day said something that hurt her best friend of many years. She regretted it immediately, and would have done anything to have taken the words back. They were said, impulsively, in a moment of thoughtlessness, and as close as she and her friend were, she didn’t consider the effect of her words before hand. What she said hurt the friend so much that this good woman was herself hurt for the pain she caused.

In her effort to undo what she had done, she went to an older, wiser woman in the village to explain her situation and ask for advice.

The older woman listened patiently in an effort to determine just how sincere the younger woman was–how far she was willing to go to correct the situation. The older woman explained, Sometimes, in order put things back in order, great efforts must be made. Just what would you be willing to do to repair the harm done?” The answer was heartfelt: “Anything.”

Listening to her, the older woman sensed the younger woman’s distress and knew she must help her. She also knew she could never alleviate her pain by living her life for her, but she could teach if the younger woman would first listen and then learn. The older woman knew that the outcome would depend solely on the character of the younger woman.

She said, “There are two things needed to do to make amends. The first of the two is extremely difficult. Tonight, take your best feather pillows, and open a small hole in each one. Then, before the sun rises, you must put a single feather on the  doorstep of each house in town. When you are through, come back to me. If you’ve done the first thing completely, I’ll tell you the second.”

The young woman hurried home to prepare for her first chore, even though the pillows were very dear to her, very expensive. All night long she labored alone in the cold.

She went from doorstep to doorstep, taking care not to overlook a single house. Her fingers were frozen, the wind was so sharp it caused her eyes to water, but she ran on, through the darkened streets, thankful there was something she could do to put things back the way they once were.

Finally, as the sky was getting light, she placed the last feather on the steps of the last house. Just as the sun rose, she returned to the older woman.

She was exhausted, but relieved that her efforts would be rewarded. “My pillows are empty. I placed a feather on the doorstep of each home.”

Now, said the wise woman, “Go and refill your pillows. Then everything will be as it was before.” The young woman was stunned. “You know that’s impossible! The wind blew away each feather as fast as I placed them on the doorsteps! You didn’t say I had to get them back! If this is the second requirement, then things will never be the same.”

“That’s true,” said the older woman. “Never forget. Each of your words is like a feather in the wind. Once spoken, no amount of effort, regardless how heartfelt or sincere, can ever return them to your mouth. Choose your words well, and guard them most of all in the presence of those you love.”

Quote:

12/3–”You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.”

Story:

12/3–The story goes: upon completing a highly dangerous tightrope walk over Niagara Falls in appalling wind and rain, ‘The Great Zumbrati’ was met by an enthusiastic supporter, who urged him to make a return trip, this time pushing a wheelbarrow, which the spectator had thoughtfully brought along.

The Great Zumbrati was reluctant, given the terrible conditions, but the supporter pressed him, “You can do it – I know you can,” he urged.

“You really believe I can do it?” asked Zumbrati.

“Yes – definitely – you can do it.” the supporter gushed.

“Okay,” said Zumbrati, “Get in the wheelbarrow…”

Scripture:

Matthew 17:20

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Humor:

The story is told of a dapper businessman who sat on a plane beside a lady who had her Bible open. He was a bit cynical and turned to her and said, “Do you really believe what you read in that Bible?”

She said, “Yes, I believe it.” He shot back, “Even that story about that guy named Jonah who was swallowed in the belly of a big fish for three days – how could he survive?” She answered, “I don’t know, but when I get to heaven I’ll ask him.”

He shot back sarcastically, “What if he’s not in heaven?” She said, “Then you can ask him.”

Story:

12/1–S—A very old lady looked in the mirror one morning. She had three remaining hairs on her head, and being a positive soul, she said, “I think I’ll braid my hair today.” So she braided her three hairs, and she had a great day.

Some days later, looking in the mirror one morning, preparing for her day, she saw that she had only two hairs remaining. “Hmm, two hairs… I fancy a centre parting today.” She duly parted her two hairs, and as ever, she had a great day.

A week or so later, she saw that she had just one hair left on her head. “One hair huh…,” she mused, “I know, a pony-tail will be perfect.” And again she had a great day.

The next morning she looked in the mirror. She was completely bald.

“Finally bald huh,” she said to herself, “How wonderful! I won’t have to waste time doing my hair any more..”

Scripture:

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Never give up as Churchill once valiantly said.

The story is told of a spry lady who lived in a retirement home. She spotted an older and distinguished gentleman who was a new resident seated in the dining hall.

She promptly sat down in front of him and attempted to get his attention with warm smiles. She saw a husband in the making.

Growing uncomfortable he asked, “May I help you?” She shot back, “You look just like my third husband. The wave of your hair, your countenance, the look of your hands.”

Now very uncomfortable he said, “Now, ma’am, how many times did you say you have been married?”

She smiled and said, “Twice.” Never give up hope.

Humor:

The story is told of a lady who told her husband that her credit card had been stolen while she was at the mall with a friend. She was in a state of panic and wondered what his response might be.

Her husband, John called the credit card company to inquire concerning the current balance. Although a few unexpected charges were on the account, he decided not to report the card as stolen after his discussion with the company.

Apparently he discovered that the thief was spending less than his wife was!

Can You Spare A Minute Or So 11/30?

If you can spare five minutes, can you spare two or three?

11/30– Can You Spare A Minute?

11/30–James 3: 5-8. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

Full of deadly poison. Friend if you saw a rattlesnake would you embrace it. No, I’m sure you would back off.

So, it is with people that don’t control their tongue and use it for criticism. People start backing up from you like they would that deadly snake. A deadly snake can kill you and so can a man with his criticism. One word from a parent to a child can be so powerful and have so much negative effect.

One word from a parent to a child can be so powerful and have such a positive effect! Oh yes, no doubt about it, I’d rather be a builder upper than a tearer downer!in peace of them that make peace.

The Wisdom Of The Old Minister

Years ago there was an old Minister, Brother Hubert Sampson,  that lived about fifty miles from me and I would go see him whenever I could. He was a barber in a little barbershop and next door was a coffee shop.     One day I went to see him in the shop was not that busy so we went next-door to the little coffee shop. This minister was full of wisdom and great illustrations.

There was a napkin holder on the table as there are on most restaurant tables. Back in the 1980s they were making little radios out of all kinds of things. It was just the style of that day. He pointed at the napkin holder and asked me if I thought they could make a radio out of that?

I replied that I was sure they could. He went on and said that we could put two dials and an antenna on it ourselves, but it wouldn’t pick up anything. After I agreed he continued his explanation. He asked me why we did not pick up anything. After I told him to go ahead and explain, he said because it didn’t have anything inside that it needed to make it work.

He told me that children of God that had God’s spirit within them had what it takes to both transmit and receive God’s message.

My mind went back to the old black-and-white TV at my home when I was growing up. We had an old outside antenna that we had to turn when we changed the channels on the TV.

My Dad would be watching the TV and I would be right outside the window where he could see me and the TV at the same time. He would motion me to turn the antenna more and when I got it at the right place he would motion me to stop.

It is that way today spiritually. We have to have our minds turned to the Father like we had the antenna turned towards the station.

Also, we have to clear our minds of the static of this life. We have to be free of worry, feelings against other people and other toxic thoughts. If we don’t we won’t be able to talk to God and transmit or receive.
