Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Words

Don’t underestimate the power of the word. The movie, Stand And Deliver portrayed the story of Jaime Escalante who was an incredibly successful teacher in a rough high school. In his class were two students named Johnny. One was a bright student and a joy to teach. The other wasted his talent and bucked authority.

At the first PTA meeting for parents, Johnny’s mother asked Jaime for a report on her soni’s progress. Jaime’s reply was, “Johnny is a joy to have in my class. I’m glad he is there.” The next day, rebellious Johnny walked into the classroom with a new attitude and demeanor. He ran up to Mr. Escalante and said, “My mom told me what you said about me. I’ve never had a teacher who wanted me.” He became a model student.

Mr. Escalante had thought that Johnny’s mother was the mother of his best student. His comments were meant for the other Johnny but the results were dramatic. The word -spoken at the right moment -carefully crafted -caused dramatic change. Encourage someone. Ah, communication is an art!

Story:

Sometimes God calms the storm and sometimes He calms me.

Jesus was asleep in the bottom of the ship during the storm! If you were on an airplane that experienced turbulence and you looked at the flight attendents eyes and they had looks of panic then it would be time to be concerned. But if you looked at the flight attendants and they were calm then it would help you to calm down too.

So we need to look to Jesus. He is always calm so there is no need of us worrying. Jesus is not worried, so there is no need for us to worry either.

The real meaning of peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. This is the real meaning of peace.

The difference between a peaceful and peaceable person can be compared to the difference between an auto mechanic and an auto driver. The driver knows how to start his car and he can drive it. However, if it were to break down, he may have no idea how to fix it. The mechanic can do both. He can drive the car and if it breaks down, he can also fix it.

So a peaceful person enjoys peaceful relations, but if these break down for some reason, he may not have the skills to restore the peace. A peaceable person by contrast is one who is able with peace. He is willing and able to restore peace with others.

Scripture:

Mark 4:35-41

And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

The Optimistic Lady With Three Hair

–A very old lady looked in the mirror one morning. She had three remaining hairs on her head, and being a positive soul, she said, “I think I’ll braid my hair today.” So she braided her three hairs, and she had a great day.

Some days later, looking in the mirror one morning, preparing for her day, she saw that she had only two hairs remaining. “Hmm, two hairs… I fancy a centre parting today.” She duly parted her two hairs, and as ever, she had a great day

A week or so later, she saw that she had just one hair left on her head. “One hair huh…,” she mused, “I know, a pony-tail will be perfect.” And again she had a great day.

The next morning she looked in the mirror. She was completely bald.

Finally bald huh,” she said to herself, “How wonderful! I won’t have to waste time doing my hair any more..”

10/7–The only person in the world that you are competing with is you.”

Story:

10/7–This is something that everyone needs, to be able to navigate the storms of life. Because no matter who you are you will have them. Concerning natural storms, they come up in everyone’s life no matter who you are or where you are at.

Storms just have a way of finding us no matter where we are at. It does matter if it’s not a good time or if we are ready. There are no exemptions!

The wise thing to do then, is to be ready. After all storms are always lurking and it is unwise not to prepare for them.

I have heard that you are either in a storm or you just came from a storm or you’re about to go into a storm. So, that’s all the time. We cannot afford to ignore the storms!

It is absolutely necessary that we learn to navigate the Storms!! When the media announces the approaching of storms, if you choose to ignore the warnings then you have to suffer the consequences. We would do everything we could to make sure we, along with our family and love ones, would be safe and prepared.

Can You Spare A Minute 10/7?

If you can’t find two minutes, can you spare just one?

10/7–Can You Spare A Minute?

3/13–10/7

The renowned Quaker scholar Rufus Jones was speaking of the importance of having a radiant countenance. After his address, a woman “with an almost unbelievably plain face” came up and asked him what he would do if he had a face like hers. He replied,

While I have troubles of my own of that kind, I’ve discovered that if you light it up from within, any old face you have is good enough.”
