If you can’t find two minutes, can you spare just one?
7/21– Can You Spare A Minute?
My uncle used to say if he couldn’t take it with him he didn’t want to go. The reality is we all are going to die and we can’t take anything with us. Therefore, we have to use it before we die to do anyone any good. Everything in life has an expiration date. Just like the date manufacturers put on all the goods they sell that tells the last date it is safe for us that we should use their product. There is no guarantee for us to use it after that certain date. Similarly, there is a limited time for us to be able to do what we intend to do. So we must get busy to get done the items on our mission statement, and our to do list and our bucket lists. I had a bad heart attack in July, 2012. They said I cheated death and that I was at Death’s door! I was in the hospital for about seven days and four of those I spent in the Critical Care Unit or CCU. You had better believe that I reviewed my life and all the things I should’ve and could’ve done.
I knew that even though I might have cheated Death that Death would be back for me again one day. Having this knowledge, I found it inexcusable that I wouldn’t be ready next time. So that’s what I’m doing at this moment trying to mark off some items. on my bucket list. No one else can do that for you. The responsibility lies in you and in you alone!
There was a farmer who sold a pound of butter to the baker. One day, the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting a pound and he found that he was not. This angered him and he took the farmer to court.
The judge asked the farmer if he was using any measure. The farmer replied, you see Your Honour, I am primitive. I don’t have a proper measure, but I do have a scale. The judge asked, Then how do you weigh the butter?
The farmer replied, Your Honour since long before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying a pound of bread from him. Everyday, when the baker brings the bread, I put it on the scale and give him the same weight in butter. If anyone is to be blamed, it is the baker.
The moral of the story: We get back in life what we give to others. Whenever you take an action, ask yourself this question: am I giving fair value for the wages or money I hope to make? Honesty and dishonesty become a habit.
Some people practise dishonesty and can lie with a straight face. Others lie so much that they don’t even know what the truth is any more. But who are they deceiving?
Themselves more than anyone else. Honesty can be put across gently. Some people take pride in being brutally honest and, in the process, hurt others. It seems they get a bigger kick out of the brutality than the honesty. The choice of words and tact are important while expressing the truth.

What to do when something or someone tries to bury you—-I heard the story about a man who had an old mule that he really loved. One day the man couldn’t find the old mule and he began to panic. He checked the fence to see if got out, but everything looked good. Then he remembered the big, deep hole he had had dug just a few days earlier. He ran as fast as he could to the hole, and sure enough his fears were confirmed. The old mule looked up at him from the bottom of the hole. The only thing he knew that was left to do, was to just put him out of his misery. So he go a shovel and began to throw the dirt down on top of the mule. When he went to get the second shovel full he was amazed. The old mule just shook off the dirt and packed it down with his feet. He quickly started shoveling as fast as he could. Each time the mule shook the dirt off and packed it down, until before long the old mule was at the top and just walked on out. So when someone digs a hole and puts you in it, and tries to bury you with dirt….just shake it off, pack it down, and walk on out.
Smile and whisper—The next time somone wants to argue with you try this technique. It is very hard to argue with someone when they are smiling and whispering. Try it sometime!
Why me Lord?— This was the title to a popular song a few years ago. Unfortunately most people are using it ask why me, meaning the bad. Why am I the one to have trouble, bad breaks, etc. I ask instead why was I the one to receive so many good things. Bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people. Just because some bad things happen to me, doesn’t mean at all that I am a bad person.
Many great people have asked why before. Even Jesus in the garden said why has Thou forsaken Me. But God has all the why answers!!
The Two Wolves—I remember, as a child, seeing on cartoons an angel on one shoulder and a devil sitting on the other. They pull in different directions. The devil made me do it was Flip Wison’s line. I heard about the old Indian whose son was becoming a man. The older Indian told the son that there were two wolves within,a good wolfe and a bad wolfe, both trying to gain the lead in his life. Which one will win, the son wanted to know? The father told him it would be the one he fed. Which thoughts will you feed, the good or the bad? Will you side with the positive thoughts or the negative ones? It is up to you, and you alone.
Practice–Allen Iverson had a lot to say about the subject of practice. After the basketball game, he went off on a reporter who asked him about his practice effort. I know what Iverson was trying to say, that it is the game, after all, which matters most. I have seen people at the work place who did not come to work good. Then, after they were there, they just tried to make do with the minimum effort. They were just marking time, just getting by. But, just as sure as promotions were given out, they couldn’t figure how why they were not chosen.

Filling up on Junk—
Filling up on junk– If I am coming home to a good home cooked meal, how hungry will I be if I stop off at a convenience stop and have a soft drink, chips, and a candy bar?
Probably not very hungry at all. That’s why we can’t learn some of the good things of life, we are too full of the trivial, meaningless things to get to absorb the better.
I’m like a dried old sponge, ready to soak it up. If a sponge is so dry that it is brittle and ready for the garbage, just a little water can bring it back to life.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
