How Do You Measure Success?

ACCOMPLISHMENT

The concert , Sol Hurok, liked to say that Marian Anderson hadn’t simply grown great, she’d grown great simply.

He says: “A few years ago a reporter interviewed Marian and asked her to name the greatest moment in her life. I was in her dressing room at the time and was curious to hear the answer. I knew she had many big moments to choose from.

There was the night Toscanini told her that hers was the finest voice of the century. There was the private concert she gave at the White House for the Roosevelts and the King and Queen of England.

She had received the $10,000 Bok Award as the person who had done the most for her home town, Philadelphia.

To top it all, there was that Easter Sunday in Washington when she stood beneath the Lincoln statue and sang for a crowd of 75,000, which included Cabinet members, Supreme Court Justices, and most members of Congress.

Which of those big moments did she choose? “None of them,” said Hurok. “Miss Anderson told the reporter that the greatest moment of her life was the day she went home and told her mother she wouldn’t have to take in washing anymore.”

Have The Right Perspective And The Right Blueprint

Have The Right Blueprint And The Right Perspective

God says don’t build anything I haven’t given you a strategy for or a blueprint. God said if I give you a strategy or blue print that means I’m getting ready to use you!

The only difference in you and the person you admire is this perspective they have on life! If you are disciplined in your perspective, you will be victorious in your outcome!!

It is like going to the eye Doctor so

that you can see better. If you are not Thankful, then you need to get an Spiritual adjustment for your Spiritual eyesight!

One thing I do, that you might try, is putting a reminder on your phone, three times a day, to be more thankful.

Well, that’s pretty petty you might think, how could that work? Just try it for 21 days and see what it does, you may just get surprised!

Your perspective is critical to being an overcomer because it’s not what happens to you, it’s how you react to what happens to you that matters. Ability to manage problems is what separates the CEO from the janitor.

The higher up you go the more problems you will encounter and your ability to have the proper perspective under fire is critical and it takes much discipline. It takes discipline to remain cool and calm under fire.

Story:

Life is a pressure cooker. The pressure keeps mounting and building until you can’t take it anymore. You are ready to explode, blow up. Everywhere you turn there is pressure. The greater the pressure, the more things cook on the inside. There are pressures because there are more variables in your life. There are more people and more responsibilities. There are more people who need you than ever before.

There are more people who have your phone number, both home and cell, your email address, etc. Your world is bigger, you know more people.

External pressures you can separate from, but internal pressures are difficult …. your marriage, your children, etc. External enemies are one thing, but internal things are connected to me.

You can kill the wolf, if you don’t kill the wolf it will kill you. You can’t kill what you are connected to…. your marriage, your child, etc. The internal pressure keeps mounting and you try to say “I’m fine, I’m just fine”, but all the time you are dying on the inside. The pressure is killing you. You’d probably be shocked at the people reading this that are smiling, but on the inside, they are about to explode. The things you can’t talk about, the secrets that you have held inside for so long. All the while the pressure is building on the inside until it has reached the dangerous levels. When you are responsible people count on you, and when they count on you it brings on responsibility and pressure. We would also be surprised at the depressed people reading this.

The world has pressures and some of them kill themselves. Children of God have pressures and it kills them. We wake up tired because all night long the issues have been churning in our heads all night long. The things you can’t talk about, you can’t tell anybody. Nobody knows that your finances are bad, your marriage is strained. We have pressures and we can’t talk to anyone not even our spouses. We are too tore up, we think, to talk to God. But talking to God is the answer for me .

Scripture:

Matthew 7:1-5

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking

–When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I wanted to paint another’s eyes.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make my favorite cake just for me, and I knew that little things are special things.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I heard you say a prayer and I believed that there is a God I can always talk to.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I felt you kiss me good night and I felt lowhen you thought I wasn’t looking I saw tears come from your eyes and I learned that sometimes things hurt but it’s all right to cry when you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you cared and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I looked and wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking

Can You Spare A Minute 6/22?

youtube.com/shorts/HZ9UKsONIyg

If you can’t find two minutes, can you spare just one?

6/22–Can You Spare A Minute?

Once there were three trees standing on the hillside. There was a oak tree on one side and a pine tree on the other side and then in the middle was a little cedar tree.

One day a mighty storm came through and blew and the mighty oak tree slid down the hill. The wind kept blowing and in a little while the pine tree slid down the hill. But when the wind finally stopped blowing, the cedar tree was left standing.

The people of that area began to wonder how it was that the cedar tree survived. They got a their shovels and started digging down and they dug and dug ….down until they saw why the cedar stood while bigger and mightier trees slid down the hill. Its roots has wrapped themselves around a big huge rock under the ground.

So when the winds of the storms and the spiritual storms blow if you wrap your roots around the Spiritual Rock which is Christ Jesus, you can stand even the mightiest of storms!!

Story:

John Blanchard stood up from the bench, straightened his Army uniform, and studied the crowd of people making their way through Grand Central Station. He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn’t, the girl with the rose.

His interest in her had begun thirteen months before in a Florida library. Taking a book off the shelf he found himself intrigued, not with the words of the book, but with the notes penciled in the margin. The soft handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and insightful mind. In the front of the book, he discovered the previous owner’s name, Miss Hollis

Maynell. With time and effort he located her address. She lived in New York City.

He wrote her a letter introducing himself and inviting her to correspond. The next day

he was shipped overseas for service in World War II. During the next year and one month the

two grew to know each other through the mail. Each letter was a seed falling on a fertile heart.

A romance was budding. Blanchard requested a photograph, but she refused. She felt that if he really cared, it wouldn’t matter what she looked like.

When the day finally came for him to return from Europe, they scheduled their first meeting – 7:00 PM at the Grand Central Station in New York. “You’ll recognize me,” she wrote, “by the red rose I’ll be wearing on my lapel.” So at 7:00 he was in the station looking for a girl whose heart he loved, but whose face he’d never seen.

I’ll let Mr. Blanchard tell you what happened:

“A young woman was coming toward me, her figure long and slim. Her blonde hair lay

back in curls from her delicate ears; her eyes were blue as flowers. Her lips and chin had a

gentle firmness, and in her pale green suit she was like springtime come alive. I started toward

her, entirely forgetting to notice that she was not wearing a rose. As I moved, a small, provocative smile curved her lips. “Going my way, sailor?” she murmured. Almost uncontrollably, I made one step closer to her, and then I saw Hollis Maynell.

She was standing almost direcdy behind the girl. A woman well past 40, she had graying hair tucked under a worn hat. She was more than plump, her thick-ankled feet thrust into low-heeled shoes. The girl in the green suit was walking quickly away. I felt as though I was split in two, so keen was my desire to follow her, and yet so deep was my longing for the woman whose spirit had truly companioned me and upheld my own. And there she stood. Her pale, plump face was gende and sensible, her gray eyes had awarm and kindly twinkle. I did not

hesitate. My fingers gripped the small worn blue leather copy of the book that was to identity me to her.

This would not be love, but it would be something precious, something perhaps even

better than love, a friendship for which I had been and must ever be grateful. I squared my

shoulders and saluted and held out the book to the woman, even though while I spoke I felt

choked by the bitterness of my disappointment. “I’m Lieutenant John Blanchard, and you

must be Miss Maynell. I am so glad you could meet me; may I take you to dinner?”

The woman’s face broadened into a tolerant smile. “I don’t know what this is about, son,” she

answered, “but the young lady in the green suit who just went by, she begged me to wear this

rose on my coat. And she said if you were to ask me out to dinner, I should tell you that she is

waiting for you in the big restaurant across the street. She said it was some kind of test!”

It’s not difficult to understand and admire Miss Maynell’s wisdom. The true nature of a heart is seen in its response to the unattractive. “Tell me whom you love,” Houssaye wrote, and I will tell you who you are!

You Life Has An Expiration Date Too

My uncle used to say if he couldn’t take it with him he didn’t want to go.

The reality is we all are going to die and we can’t take anything with us. Therefore, we have to use it before we die to do anyone any good.

Everything in life has an expiration date. Just like the date manufacturers put on all the goods they sell that tells the last date it is safe for us that we should use their product. There is no guarantee for us to use it after that certain date. Similarly, there is a limited time for us to be able to do what we intend to do. So we must get busy to get done the items on our mission statement, and our to do list and our bucket lists.

I had a bad heart attack in July, 2012. They said I cheated death and that I was at Death’s door! I was in the hospital for about seven days and four of those I spent in the Critical Care Unit or CCU. You had better believe that I reviewed my life and all the things I should’ve and could’ve done.

I knew that even though I might have cheated Death that Death would be back for me again one day. Having this knowledge, I found it inexcusable that I wouldn’t be ready next time. So that’s what I’m doing at this moment trying to mark off some items. on my bucket list. No one else can do that for you. The responsibility lies in you and in you alone!

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is now!

Story:

There was a man standing on a hill looking down on a man in the valley. The man on the hill said to himself I am here and the man in the valley is there. I don’t want to be here, I want to be there. I will just go join the man in the valley and then I can be there too!

So the man on the hill hastened to join the man in the valley, for he had always longed to be there. When he finally got to the man in the valley he was so happy he exclaimed to the man I am finally there.

The man in the valley said no my son you are here. The man on the hill said please tell me where there is so I can finally be there. The man in the valley said you see that hill you just came from? Well that is there and you are here.

So, when you long to get there in life, life will let you know you haven’t arrived.

When I get $1 million dollars, get married, get my drivers license, you think, I will finally be there. You get married and then feel like it will take a child before you are finally there. Then you think when I get this child raised and through school….. well, you get my point!

We seem to never be there because we are always here!!

6/21–Can You Spare A Minute

Someday Isle

Someday I’ll do this or that.

I wonder how many has been marooned and stuck on Someday I’ll?

Like Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway.

The cemetery is one of the richest places in the world. It has more riches that Fort Knox. Songs never sung, speeches never delivered, love never revealed, and talents never used.

I want to do, as the motivational speaker Les Brown encouraged, and to “Live Full And Die Empty”

I do not want to take anything with me I want to use it all. I don’t want to die never letting my friends and loved ones know how much I truly cared.

I want to be like a wet cloth that you take and wring very drop of water out until there is nothing else left inside!

Learn To Think Yourself Happy

Think yourself happy–It is a choice you know. Just like going to the soft drink machine and deciding whether you will choose cola or uncola.

You can think yourself unhappy or happy. It is your choice.

The Apostle Paul told the ruler he was standing before that “I think myself happy” to be able to give the answer he was giving him concerning his convictions. Why would anyone choose to be unhappy?

But, it seems that some people are so determined to be unhappy that I hate to interupt them and keep them from what they work so hard at! It is not the weather, or someone else….it is your decision, yours alone.

Quit abusing yourself and blaming on someone else. I think it was Pogo who said I met the enemy, and I knew him…it was myself.
