Beware Of An Attitude Virus

In his book Understanding Business Values and Motivators, Dr. Ira Wolfe writes, “An ‘Attitude Virus’ seems to be everywhere…. We see the symptoms every day as rudeness, poor service, lack of motivation, and increased job stress….

Managers “feel the painful, long-term effects of the Virus in employee turnover, lost productivity, customer complaints, and a drain on profits. But the greatest damage the Virus does is lowering workplace resistance to other ‘infections’ and causing healthy workers to seek escape to more healthy business environments.”

Dr. Wolfe notes that the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine has diagnosed a workplace condition called “presenteeism”—being “at work” without being productive. “It’s like absenteeism, but worse,” he says, “because, with presenteeism, employees still show up and receive a full paycheck—but they disrupt and demoralize other workers while neglecting the work they are being paid to do. The cost of “presenteeism’ in the U.S. alone is estimated to be hundreds of billions of dollars, resulting in over 2.5 billion lost workdays per year.”

The church is our SPIRITUAL ARK; you get things in church YOU CAN’T GET ANYWHERE ELSE!

Filling up on junk– If I am coming home to a good home cooked meal, how hungry will I be if I stop off at a convenience stop and have a soft drink, chips, and a candy bar?  Probably not very hungry at all.  That’s why we can’t learn some of the good things of life, we are too full of the trivial, meaningless things to get to absorb the better.  I’m like a dried old sponge, ready to soak it up.  If a sponge is so dry that it is brittle and ready for the garbage, just a little water can bring it back to life.

Garbage—Excuses are for the most part is like garbage.  We think our excuse is different and bona fide.  It is like the garbage in my office.  If you ask what do I have in the can.  I don’t attempt to itemize it–an apple core, a banana peeling.  I just say garbage.

Scripture:

Amos 8:11

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD,

that I will send a famine in the land,

not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water,

but of hearing the words of the LORD:

How Do You Face Death?

How Do You Face Death?

An aged lady left Buffalo by boat for Cleveland to visit a daughter living there.

Soon a dreadful storm arose and many of the passengers, fearing death, gathered for prayer.

Only the aged lady seemed unconcerned about the tempest as she sat with her hands folded and prayed.

After the storm had subsided, some of the passengers were eager to know the secret of her calmness. They gathered around her and asked her the reason.

Well, my dear friends,” she replied, “it is like this. I have two daughters. One died and went home to heaven. The other lives in Cleveland.

When the storm arose, I wondered which of them I might visit first, the one in Cleveland or3 the one in heaven, and I just left it to the Lord; for I would be glad to see either.”

5/23–Knowledge Versus Wisdom

Story:

It is a choice you know. Just like going to the soft drink machine and deciding whether you will choose cola or uncola. You can think yourself unhappy or happy. It is your choice. The Apostle Paul told the ruler he was standing before that “I think myself happy” to be able to give the answer he was giving him concerning his convictions. Why would anyone choose to be unhappy? But, it seems that some people are so determined to be unhappy that I hate to interrupt them and keep them from what they work so hard at! It is not the weather, or someone else….it is your decision, yours alone. Quit abusing yourself and blaming on someone else. I think it was Pogo who said I met the enemy, and I knew him…it was myself.

Scripture:

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

The Story Of The Man Who Was Spared Execution

During the 17th century, Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England, sentenced a soldier to be shot for his crimes.

The execution was to take place at the ringing of the evening curfew bell. However, the bell did not sound.

The soldier’s fiancé had climbed into the belfry and clung to the great clapper of the bell to prevent it from striking.

When she was summoned by Cromwell to account for her actions, she wept as she showed him her bruised and bleeding hands. Cromwell’s heart was touched and he said, “Your lover shall live because of your sacrifice. Curfew shall not ring tonight!”

5/22–Time is precious

Story:

I know something about you not even knowing you that you have seeds of greatness within you! You have ability to do things within you that you can’t even begin to imagine!
You have talents and skills within you that you haven’t even began to reach for yet!
When the end comes for you let it find you climbing up a new mountain not sliding down an old one.
How sad to reach the point of death only realizing that you have never really lived! You realize that you have never even scraped the surface of your potential!
To reach your dreams you must have a plan of action, be relentless, have a dream, and let nothing stop you!!

Scripture:

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

What Do You Consider As Your Greatest Accomplishment?

The concert , Sol Hurok, liked to say that Marian Anderson hadn’t simply grown great, she’d grown great simply.

He says: “A few years ago a reporter interviewed Marian and asked her to name the greatest moment in her life. I was in her dressing room at the time and was curious to hear the answer. I knew she had many big moments to choose from.

There was the night Toscanini told her that hers was the finest voice of the century. There was the private concert she gave at the White House for the Roosevelts and the King and Queen of England.

She had received the $10,000 Bok Award as the person who had done the most for her home town, Philadelphia.

To top it all, there was that Easter Sunday in Washington when she stood beneath the Lincoln statue and sang for a crowd of 75,000, which included Cabinet members, Supreme Court Justices, and most members of Congress.

Which of those big moments did she choose? “None of them,” said Hurok. “Miss Anderson told the reporter that the greatest moment of her life was the day she went home and told her mother she wouldn’t have to take in washing anymore.”
