3/23—Start Your Day Off Right Series

Quote:

Story:

3/23–The story is told of a chaplain in the war who saw a soldier with one arm. He later discovered that the young man had heroically pushed another soldier out of harm’s way and had taken the full brunt of an explosion himself.

The chaplain tried to console him, “You lost your arm for a great cause.” The soldier quickly corrected the chaplain by saying, “Not quite. I did not lose my arm for a great cause – I gave my arm for a great cause.”

In a similar manner, Jesus shoved us off of the cross, took the full brunt of sin’s debt, and gave his life as a ransom for us. No greater sacrifice has ever been given.

Scripture:

Hebrews 11:33-40

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

If You Fill Up On Junk You Won’t Be Hungry

Filling up on Junk—

Filling up on junk– If I am coming home to a good home cooked meal, how hungry will I be if I stop off at a convenience stop and have a soft drink, chips, and a candy bar?

Probably not very hungry at all. That’s why we can’t learn some of the good things of life, we are too full of the trivial, meaningless things to get to absorb the better.

I’m like a dried old sponge, ready to soak it up. If a sponge is so dry that it is brittle and ready for the garbage, just a little water can bring it back to life.

Unity Makes a Big Difference In A Church

youtube.com/watch

Unity makes a difference!

Psalms 133

A SONG OF DEGREES OF DAVID.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is

for brethren to dwell together in unity

It is like the precious ointment upon the head,

that ran down upon the beard,

even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descendedfer upon the mountains of Zion:

for there the LORD commanded the blessing,

even life for evermore.

Quote:

3/22–A wise man once said “If a man’s heart is good,….Nothing else matters. And if a man’s heart is bad,….Nothing else matters.”

Story:

I heard a great story recently — I love telling it — of a little girl who was in a drawing lesson. She was six, and she was at the back, drawing, and the teacher said this girl hardly ever paid attention, and in this drawing lesson, she did. The teacher was fascinated. She went over to her, and she said, “What are you drawing?” And the girl said, “I’m drawing a picture of God.” And the teacher said, “But nobody knows what God looks like.” And the girl said, “They will, in a minute.”

Scripture:

Mark 10:14

But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

Humor:

A family of five was rushed to the hospital to have their stomachs washed out after the cat with whom they had shared a meal of mushrooms suddenly began to have stomach contractions. While members of the family showed no signs of illness, the doctor still had them rushed to the hospital. When they returned home they found the cat feeling well, after having produced five kittens.

Quote:

3/21–Technology isn’t life..

Spend time with people .. Not with devices.”

Story:

The only survivor of a shipwreck washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.

Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stung with grief and anger. “God, how could you do this to me!” he cried.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. “How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,” they replied.

It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad. But we shouldn’t lose heart. Remember next time your little hut is burning to the ground–it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God.

Scripture:

Proverbs 6:16-19

These six things doth the LORD hate:

yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

A proud look, a lying tongue,

and hands that shed innocent blood,

An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,

feet that be swift in running to mischief,

A false witness that speaketh lies,

and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Humor:

Consider the case of the Illinois man who left the snow-filled streets of Chicago for a vacation in Florida. His wife was on a business trip and was planning to meet him there the next day.

When he reached his hotel, he decided to send his wife a quick e-mail. Unable to find the scrap of paper on which he had written her e-mail address, he did his best to type it in from memory.

Unfortunately, he missed one letter and his note was directed instead to an elderly preacher’s wife, whose husband had passed away only the day before. When the grieving widow checked her e-mail, she took one look at the monitor, let out a piercing scream, and fell to the floor in a dead faint.

At the sound, her family rushed into the room and saw this note on the screen: Dearest Wife, Just got checked in. Everything prepared for your arrival tomorrow.

Your Loving Husband

PS. Sure is hot down here.

Are you prepared for your arrival in heaven?
