Life often brings waves of uncertainty, and with them comes anxiety. It can feel like a storm raging within—heart racing, thoughts spiraling, peace fleeing. But remember: storms don’t last forever, and neither does anxiety when you anchor yourself in hope and faith.

1. Recognize Anxiety for What It Is

Anxiety thrives in the shadows of our minds. The first step in overcoming it is to name it. Acknowledge your feelings without shame. You are not weak for feeling anxious—you are human. The Bible reminds us, “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). What you carry today was never meant to be carried alone.

2. Shift Your Focus

Anxiety magnifies problems and shrinks solutions. One powerful way to fight back is to shift your focus from what if to what is. Instead of rehearsing worries, rehearse gratitude. Write down three things you’re thankful for today. Gratitude pushes fear out of the driver’s seat and reminds you that God has already been faithful in countless ways.

3. Take One Step at a Time

Anxiety often comes from trying to live tomorrow’s troubles with today’s strength. Jesus said, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow” (Matthew 6:34). In other words—today is enough. Break your tasks into small, manageable steps, and celebrate progress instead of perfection.

4. Anchor Yourself in God’s Promises

Anxiety shouts, “You can’t handle this.” Faith whispers, “God already has.” When the waves rise, hold on to His promises. Repeat them out loud if you have to: “God is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). His Word steadies your heart when everything else feels unstable.

5. Breathe, Pray, and Release

When anxiety strikes, pause and breathe deeply. Let prayer become your lifeline: “Lord, I give You this worry. Replace it with Your peace.” Prayer doesn’t always change the situation immediately, but it always changes you.

Final Thought

Anxiety may knock at your door daily, but you don’t have to let it live in your house. You have the tools—gratitude, faith, prayer, and God’s promises—to push back the storm. Take today step by step, breath by breath, promise by promise.

Pebble Beach on the coast of California is a lovely area that typifies the advantages of friction.  Ceaseless waves thunder ashore and dash the beach.  The pitiless pounding of the waves tosses and grinds the stones together.  They are dashed against the rugged, ageless cliffs … this goes on year after year.  

  

 The result is round, polished stones that are collected by tourists as ornaments.  Near Pebble Beach is a quiet cove.  A natural formation serves as a breakwater.  Sheltered by the cliff are numerous stones.  They are unsought and unwanted.  They have been spared the wear caused by the pounding waves.  They have remained rough and unpolished.

   When testing times come, we may be buffeted about; but the rough edges are knocked off of our lives.  The friction of trials can cause wonderful features to be brought to the surface.  Believers who understand the friction of trials will be able to face life’s hard times.

8/18– Can You Spare A Minute?

–8/18–Tomas Borge was a leader in the struggle against the totalitarian regime that had dominated his country, Nicaragua. During the revolution, Borge was captured and put in prison. While there he was subjected to the most extreme torture for over 500 hours.

After the revolution Borge was freed and become the Minister of the Interior. One day he found one of his torturers in jail. He walked up to this man who had inflicted such terrible, relentless and brutal pain upon him and said, “I am going to get my revenge from you”. He then held out his hand and said, “This is my revenge, I forgive you.”

1 Peter 5:7 says, “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” Those words are like a lifeline in a storm. God doesn’t tell us to manage our own burdens or carry them until we collapse—He tells us to cast them on Him.

1. The Weight We Weren’t Meant to Carry

Life comes with its share of worries—bills, health, relationships, the unknown future. If you try to shoulder all of it alone, you’ll feel crushed. God never designed you to bear that load. He invites you to toss it onto His strong shoulders and let Him carry it for you.

2. Casting Means Letting Go

Casting isn’t gently placing something down—it’s throwing it away from yourself. Too often, we “pray” about our cares but keep them in our back pocket, ready to pick up again. True casting means trusting God enough to release the grip completely.

3. Why We Can Trust Him

We can cast our care on Him because He cares for us—not just in a general, world-sized way, but personally, intimately, and constantly. He sees every tear, hears every sigh, and understands every unspoken fear.

4. The Exchange That Changes Everything

When we give God our anxiety, He gives us His peace (Philippians 4:6-7). When we hand Him our confusion, He gives us His guidance. When we surrender our fear, He gives us His courage. That’s the best trade you’ll ever make.

💭 Final Thought: Your hands were made to lift in worship, not to cling to worry. Let go. Cast your cares on God today—and walk in the freedom of knowing they’re in the safest hands in the universe.

Two lumberjacks of equal skill, experience, and stature work side by side, chopping down trees together every single day.

However, one lumberjack works non-stop, without taking a break, whereas the other takes an hour-long lunch break every afternoon.

Despite working for less time, both lumberjacks inevitably chop the same number of trees by the end of each working day.

Puzzled and frustrated, the lumberjack who works all day long asks the other how he manages to chop just as much as him while still taking a break.

In a world where titles, positions, and recognition are often prized above all else, Jesus calls us to something higher—and yet humbler: to be a servant. In Mark 10:43-44, He says, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.”

1. Greatness in God’s Kingdom Looks Different

In God’s eyes, greatness isn’t measured by how many people serve you, but by how many people you serve. The path upward in the kingdom of God always begins by going lower—bending the knee, rolling up your sleeves, and putting others first.

2. Serving Is More Than Doing Tasks

Being a servant isn’t just about what you do, it’s about how you do it. True servants serve with humility, joy, and love, even when there’s no applause. They see every act of service—big or small—as an offering to the Lord.

“The measure of a man is not how many servants he has, but how many people he serves.”

3. Jesus: The Perfect Example

The King of Kings washed the dusty feet of His disciples (John 13:14-15). If the Son of God was willing to stoop so low to meet the needs of others, how can we refuse to do the same?

4. Eternal Impact of a Servant’s Heart

When you serve God by serving others, you leave an eternal mark. Your kindness may be forgotten by people, but it’s never forgotten by God. Hebrews 6:10 assures us, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people.”

💭 Final Thought: Don’t chase the spotlight—carry the towel. In God’s kingdom, the servants are the ones who will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

James 4:14 says, “For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” That single verse puts life in sharp perspective. No matter how strong we feel or how far into the future we plan, life is short, fragile, and fleeting.

1. The Mist That Fades

If you’ve ever seen your breath on a cold morning, you’ve watched a perfect picture of life. It appears for a moment, dances in the air, and is gone. That’s not meant to make us fearful—it’s meant to make us purposeful.

2. Living with Intent

When we understand how quickly time passes, we stop wasting it on what doesn’t matter. Grudges feel heavier. Gossip feels emptier. And kindness feels more urgent. Every sunrise is a reminder that we have one more chance to do what God put us here to do.

3. Make It Count
