Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” — Philippians 2:3
We live in a world that constantly tells us to promote ourselves, defend our position, and make sure everyone knows our accomplishments. Yet God’s way is often the opposite of the world’s way. The Bible teaches us to esteem others highly.
Esteeming others does not mean thinking less of yourself. It means choosing to recognize the value, worth, and contributions of those around you. It means celebrating another person’s success without jealousy, listening to another person’s opinion with respect, and treating every individual as someone created in the image of God.
The strongest people are not those who constantly seek recognition. The strongest people are secure enough to lift others up. They understand that encouraging someone else does not diminish their own worth. In fact, it multiplies the good that can be accomplished.
Think about the people who have made the greatest impact on your life. Chances are they were individuals who believed in you, encouraged you, and made you feel valued. They saw potential in you and helped you become a better person. Today, you have the opportunity to do the same for someone else.
A kind word, a sincere compliment, a listening ear, or a simple act of appreciation can brighten someone’s day and strengthen their spirit. Many people are carrying burdens you know nothing about. Your encouragement may be exactly what they need to keep moving forward.
Jesus Himself set the ultimate example. Though He was Lord of all, He humbled Himself and served others. He lifted the discouraged, welcomed the overlooked, and showed compassion to those society rejected.
Today, make it your goal to esteem others highly. Look for the good in people. Celebrate their victories. Encourage their efforts. Honor their contributions. When you spend your life lifting others up, you’ll discover that God has a way of lifting you as well.
Today’s Challenge: Find three people today and intentionally encourage them. Let them know something you appreciate about them. Your words may have a greater impact than you realize.
Prayer: Lord, help me to see others through Your eyes. Teach me to value, encourage, and honor those around me. Remove pride from my heart and give me a servant’s spirit. Help me be a blessing to others today. Amen.
