“The greatest ability is availability.”
Many people have talent. Many people have knowledge. Many people have good intentions. Yet some of the greatest opportunities to make a difference are missed simply because no one was available.
Think about the people who have impacted your life. Chances are, what you remember most is not their brilliance or their accomplishments. You remember that they were there when you needed them. They listened. They encouraged. They helped. They made themselves available.
Throughout Scripture, God often used people who were willing more than people who were qualified. When Isaiah heard the Lord ask, “Whom shall I send?” he answered, “Here am I; send me” (Isaiah 6:8). He made himself available, and God used him in a mighty way.
Being available means keeping your eyes open for opportunities to serve. It means taking time to encourage a discouraged friend, lend a helping hand to a neighbor, or simply listen when someone needs to talk. It means making room in your schedule for God’s purpose rather than filling every moment with your own plans.
The truth is that you don’t have to have all the answers to help someone. You don’t have to be rich, famous, or powerful. You simply need to be available.
Today, ask yourself: “Who might need me? Where can I serve? How can I be a blessing?” Then make yourself available. You may discover that the small act of kindness you offer becomes the answer to someone’s prayer.
Thought for the Day:
God often works through those who are willing to say, “I’m here, Lord. Use me.”
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to be available for Your service today. Open my eyes to the needs around me and give me a willing heart to help others. Use my life to encourage, strengthen, and bless those I meet. Amen.
