“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” — Psalm 119:165
We live in a world where it seems people are offended by almost everything. A misunderstood comment, a forgotten invitation, a harsh word, or even a simple disagreement can leave us carrying hurt for days, months, or even years. But if we aren’t careful, offense will become a prison that keeps us from experiencing the peace and joy God wants us to have.
One of the greatest signs of spiritual maturity is learning not to be easily offended.
Being offended doesn’t usually hurt the person who offended us—it hurts us. It steals our peace, clouds our judgment, damages relationships, and robs us of the joy God intended for us. Satan knows that if he can keep us offended, he can keep us distracted from God’s purpose.
Jesus Himself was misunderstood, rejected, criticized, mocked, and ultimately crucified. Yet instead of living with resentment, He prayed, “Father, forgive them.” What an incredible example for every believer!
When someone says something that hurts, pause before reacting. Ask yourself, “Is this worth sacrificing my peace over?” Many offenses disappear when we choose grace instead of retaliation.
Sometimes people don’t even realize they’ve hurt us. Other times, they may have had a bad day, spoken without thinking, or simply seen things differently. Giving others the benefit of the doubt can save us from carrying unnecessary burdens.
Choosing not to be offended doesn’t mean we’re weak. It means we’re strong enough to let God handle what we cannot. It means we’re more interested in protecting our relationship with Christ than proving ourselves right.
Today, determine that your joy is too valuable to surrender to offense. Refuse to let bitterness take root. Forgive quickly. Love deeply. Extend the same grace you’ve received from God.
Life is simply too short to spend it offended.
Challenge for Today: If someone has hurt or offended you, make the decision today to release it into God’s hands. Don’t allow someone else’s actions to control your attitude. Walk in forgiveness, protect your peace, and let nothing rob you of the joy Christ has placed within you.
