You Have To Encourage Yourself

“But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” — 1 Samuel 30:6

There will be days when no one calls. No one notices. No one applauds your efforts. Those are the moments when you must learn one of life’s greatest lessons: encourage yourself.

David understood this. After returning to Ziklag and finding the city destroyed and his loved ones taken captive, even his own men talked of stoning him. He had every reason to give up, yet Scripture says, “David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.” He didn’t wait for someone else to lift his spirits. He turned to the One who never fails.

We all enjoy words of encouragement from family, friends, and church members, but they won’t always be there when we need them most. That’s why it’s so important to develop the habit of strengthening your own heart through God’s promises. Open His Word. Remember His faithfulness. Recall the victories He has already given you. Pray with confidence, knowing He hears every word.

Sometimes you need to look in the mirror and remind yourself, “God is still on the throne. He hasn’t forgotten me. He has brought me through difficult days before, and He will do it again.”

Don’t allow discouragement to become a permanent resident in your heart. Speak words of faith instead of defeat. Choose hope over despair. Your circumstances may not change immediately, but your perspective will—and that often changes everything.

Today, if no one else encourages you, encourage yourself. Lift your eyes toward heaven. Trust God’s promises. Keep moving forward one faithful step at a time. The God who has carried you this far will not abandon you now.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being my constant source of strength. Help me to encourage myself in You when I feel discouraged or alone.
