There are times in life when moving forward doesn’t look very impressive.
Sometimes moving forward means taking a giant leap. Other times, it means simply getting up, putting one foot in front of the other, and refusing to quit.
We often measure progress by how far we have traveled, but perhaps we should measure it by how many times we decided not to give up.
Life can change quickly. Plans can be interrupted. Health can slow us down. Disappointments can discourage us. We may find ourselves facing circumstances we never expected.
But remember this: A setback does not have to become a stopping place.
You may not be able to move as fast as you once did. You may have to change your plans. You may even need someone to help you along the way. None of that means you have failed.
Progress is still progress.
The Bible says:
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” — Psalm 37:23
Notice that it says steps. God does not always show us the entire journey. Sometimes He simply gives us enough strength and direction for the next step.
So don’t spend today worrying about how far you still have to go. Look at what is immediately in front of you.
Take the next step.
Say the next prayer.
Do the next right thing.
Accept the help you need.
And when today is finished, thank God that you kept moving.
You may be surprised one day when you look back and realize that those little steps carried you farther than you ever imagined.
Thought for September 13:
You don’t have to move fast. You don’t have to have everything figured out. You simply have to keep moving forward.
