Don’t Ever Judge Too Quickly

Have you ever formed an opinion about someone, only to discover later that you didn’t know the whole story?

It’s easy to judge what we see. It’s much harder to understand what we cannot see.

We may see someone who seems unfriendly, but we don’t see the burden they’re carrying.

We may see someone make a bad decision, but we don’t know the circumstances that brought them to that moment.

We may see someone who isn’t performing as well as we think they should, but we don’t know what they had to overcome just to show up.

That’s why we should be careful about judging people too quickly.

Jesus said in John 7:24, “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

Appearances rarely tell the entire story.

Before criticizing someone, try understanding them. Before repeating something you’ve heard, make sure you know the truth. Before deciding what kind of person someone is, give them enough time to show you.

Sometimes the person we were quickest to judge becomes the person we later admire.

Remember, we all have chapters in our lives that we wouldn’t want someone else to read and use to judge our entire story.

God has shown us mercy, patience, and grace. We should be willing to extend those same things to others.

Today, when you’re tempted to make a quick judgment, stop and ask yourself:

“Do I really know the whole story?”

Chances are, you don’t.

Give people a little room. Give them a little time. Give them a little grace.

Because someday, you may be the one hoping someone doesn’t judge you too quickly.

Thought for Today

Don’t judge someone by one moment in their life. You may have seen the moment, but God knows the whole story.
