Adversity is something none of us asks for, but sooner or later, it knocks on everyone’s door.
It may come through disappointment, sickness, financial difficulties, broken relationships, unexpected changes, or simply circumstances we never saw coming. We may not get to choose the adversity we face, but we can choose how we respond to it.
A storm can do one of two things—it can cause us to give up, or it can teach us how strong our foundation really is.
The Bible says:
> “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair.” — 2 Corinthians 4:8
Notice that Paul didn’t say there would be no trouble. He said that trouble did not have the final word.
Sometimes adversity reveals strength within us that we didn’t know we had. It teaches us patience. It develops perseverance. It causes us to appreciate the good days. And most importantly, it can teach us to depend upon God when our own strength isn’t enough.
If you’re going through a difficult season today, don’t judge the rest of your story by the chapter you’re living in right now.
This isn’t necessarily where your story ends.
You’ve made it through difficult days before. You’ve faced circumstances you once wondered if you could survive—and you’re still here.
So when adversity comes, stand your ground.
Don’t let the obstacle become your stopping place.
Don’t let disappointment steal your determination.
Don’t let today’s struggle rob you of tomorrow’s hope.
You may have been knocked down, but you can get back up. You may have been slowed down, but you can keep moving. You may have been hurt, but you can heal.
Adversity doesn’t have to defeat you—it can develop you.
So on this October 5, make up your mind:
I may bend, but I will not break.
I may stumble, but I will get back up.
I may face adversity, but with God’s help, I will overcome!
Keep going. Keep believing. Keep trusting God.
Your adversity may be part of your story—but it doesn’t have to be the end of your story.
