Scripture:

Hebrews 12:1-3

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

You Can’t Take Anything With You At Death

My uncle used to say if he couldn’t take it with him he didn’t want to go. The reality is we all are going to die and we can’t take anything with us. Therefore, we have to use it before we die to do anyone any good.

Everything in life has an expiration date. Just like the date manufacturers put on all the goods they sell that tells the last date it is safe for us that we should use their product. There is no guarantee for us to use it after that certain date.

Similarly, there is a limited time for us to be able to do what we intend to do. So we must get busy to get done the items on our mission statement, and our to do list and our bucket lists.

I had a bad heart attack in July, 2012. They said I cheated death and that I was at Death’s door! I was in the hospital for about seven days and four of those I spent in the Critical Care Unit or CCU. You had better believe that I reviewed my life and all the things I should’ve and could’ve done.

I knew that even though I might have cheated Death that Death would be back for me again one day. Having this knowledge, I found it inexcusable that I wouldn’t be ready next time. So that’s what I’m doing at this moment trying to mark off some items. on my bucket list. No one else can do that for you. The responsibility lies in you and in you alone!

3/7–When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking

When you thought I wasn’t looking,  I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw you make my favorite cake just for me, and I understood that little special things.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I heard you say a prayer and I believed that is a  God that I could always talk to.

You thought I wasn’t looking about you kiss me good night, and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn’t looking I saw  tears come from your eyes and I learned sometimes things hurt but it’s all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I saw that you cared I wanted to be everything I could be!

When you thought I wasn’t looking, I wanted to say thanks for all the things I saw when you thought I wasn’t looking!

Scripture:

Matthew 6:3-4

But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

ANONYMOUS

A man called up the local armory to get a report on the number and status of the weapons and vehicles. A private answered the phone and said, “We’ve got 3 jeeps, 4 tanks, 500 rifles, and a ton of ammo. Oh, we also have two Cadillacs for the fat generals.”

There was silence, then this response, “Private, do you know who I am?”

“No.”

“I’m General Westin.”

“General, do you know who I am?”

“No.”

“See you later, fatty.”

The Preacher And The Lamps

Church does mean something, you know.

In a certain mountain village a pastor wondered what legacy he should leave to his townspeople. At last he decided to build them a church.

No one saw the complete plans for the church until it was finished.

When the people gathered, they marveled at its beauty and completeness. Then someone asked, “But where are the lamps? How will it be lighted?”

The pastor pointed to some brackets in the walls. Then he gave to each family a lamp which they were to bring with them each time they came to worship.

“Each time you are here the area where you are seated will be lighted,” the pastor said.

“Each time you are not here, that area will be dark. This is to remind you that whenever you fail to come to church, some part of God’s house will be dark.”

Is your lamp lit?

Scripture:

James 4:13-15

Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
