Can You Spare A Minute Ir So 3/14?

If you can’t find five minutes, can you spared just two or three?

3/14–Can You Spare A Minute?

3/14–Four boys made an excuse of how they’d had a flat tire that morning. Since class was nearly over, they asked if they could take a make-up test later. The in professor said, “I’ll do better than that. Just have a seat in the four corners of the classroom and I’ll prepare a special final exam just for you. I’ll make it so easy that you only have to answer one question.” The guys looked at each other in surprise and smiled. The professor continued as he passed out a piece of paper to each young man, “If all four of you answer this question correctly, you will all receive an A for the semester. However, if any one of you misses it, you’ll all fail.” The four guys were still grinning when he handed them their paper, but their smiles disappeared when they turned over the sheets. The single question on the final exam stared them in the face: “Which tire was flat?”

Consider The Honeybee Before You Become Arrogant

Illustration:  Arrogance has its own built-in misery.  The arrogant person may offend others, but he hurts himself more.  I was once stung by a honeybee.  The sting hurt me, but it hurt the bee more – the bee died as a result of that thrust, but I didn’t.

3/13– Start Your Day Off Right Series

Quote:

3/13–There comes a time in life when you have to choose to turn the page, write another book or simply close it

Story:

3/13Crystal Meth and the Funeral Home— I once knew a girl that was very pretty.  I had not seen her in a long time when she died at about age 30 to 35.  I knew her family, so we went to the viewing.  I could not believe my eyes.  She looked like an old lady.  I was not familar with that drug and have never seen such devastation.  It peaked my interest, so I went online to find  out more.  There were beautiful young ladies on there that showed their pictures every year for 10 years or so.  They went from looking like a beauty queen to looking like the wicked witch (even worse) of the Wizard of Oz.  I can’t imagine anyone taking that knowing what it will do them.  Why would someone want that sentence of death? Give me some of that, I just have to have me some of that. I just have to look like that.  I just can’t imagine such.

Scripture:

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Light Your Face Up With A Smile To Attract Others

The renowned Quaker scholar Rufus Jones was speaking of the importance of having a radiant countenance. After his address, a woman “with an almost unbelievably plain face” came up and asked him what he would do if he had a face like hers. He replied,

While I have troubles of my own of that kind, I’ve discovered that if you light it up from within, any old face you have is good enough.”

3/12–Start Your Day Off Right Series

Story:

3/12–What we cannot do alone – we can do together.

More than 350 people of the tiny town of Stromsburg, Neb., formed a human chain to transfer thousands of books from the town’s old library to its new one.

Residents stood shoulder-to-shoulder to pass sacks containing a few books each to the new facility, a distance of a few blocks.

Most of the old library’s contents were trucked over in advance, but city leaders wanted to involve the community.

“There were people of all ages passing those books,” said Mayor Elaine Westring. “They will always remember this day.”

Sounds like a church, doesn’t it? Together, we pass along the gospel one person at a time.

– adapted by Dr. David Sylvester from USA Today, 2-22-01

Scripture:

Psalms 133

A SONG OF DEGREES OF DAVID.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is

for brethren to dwell together in unity!

It is like the precious ointment upon the head,

that ran down upon the beard,

even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion:

for there the LORD commanded the blessing,

even life for evermore.

Bend But Do Not Break

A heavy snowfall can cripple large trees like elm and oak due to the weight breaking off the branches.

On the other hand, evergreens droop with the burden until it slides off.

So, too, we should not let burdens break us down.   Bend a little perhaps but not break.
