The Retiring Builder
Scripture:
Luke 6:48-49
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
Humor:
One Sunday morning, after a lifeless service, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it.
The seven-year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly, “Good morning, Alex.”
“Good morning, pastor,” replied the young man, still focused on the plaque. “Pastor, what is this?” Alex asked.
“Well, son, it’s a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service,” the pastor said.
They stood together staring at the large plaque. Little Alex shot back, “Which service did they die in–morning or evening?”
My, how we love to argue over worship!
