The little boy and the French fries
A Chinese boy who wanted to learn about jade went to study with a talented old teacher. This gentle man put a piece of the precious stone into his hand and told him to hold it tight.
Then he began to talk of philosophy, men, women, the sun and almost everything under it. After an hour he took back the stone and sent the boy home.
The procedure was repeated for several weeks. The boy became frustrated. When would he be told about the jade? He was too polite, however, to question the wisdom of his venerable teacher. Then one day, when the old man put a stone into his hands, the boy cried out instinctively, ‘That’s not jade!’”

5/17— Can You Spare A Minute?
Two good friends had a quarrel one day, and one of them slapped another. The man felt pain, but said nothing and wrote on the sand: “Today my best friend slapped me.”
Two friends continued walking and found an oasis. They decided to swim in a wellspring and suddenly the one who was slapped, started to sink, but his friend saved him.
When he regained consciousness, he wrote on the stone: “Today my best friend saved my life.”
The other friend, who slapped and saved his friend’s life, asked him:
– When I hurt you, you wrote on the sand and now you are writing on the stone. Why?
His friend said:
– When someone hurts us, we should write it on the sand, so that the wind could erase it. But when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it on the stone, so that the wind could not erase it.

It is a choice you know. Just like going to the soft drink machine and deciding whether you will choose cola or uncola. You can think yourself unhappy or happy. It is your choice.
The Apostle Paul told the ruler he was standing before that “I think myself happy” to be able to give the answer he was giving him concerning his convictions. Why would anyone choose to be unhappy?
But, it seems that some people are so determined to be unhappy that I hate to interrupt them and keep them from what they work so hard at! It is not the weather, or someone else….it is your decision, yours alone. Quit abusing yourself and blaming on someone else.
I think it was Pogo who said I met the enemy, and I knew him…it was myself.

5/16–Faith As A Grain Of Mustard Seed

Story:
I’m just a plowhand from Arkansas, but I have learned how to hold a team together. How to lift some men up, how to calm down others, until finally they’ve got one heartbeat together, a team. There’s just three things I’d ever say: If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, then we did it. If anything goes real good, then you did it. That’s all it takes to get people to win football games for you.
Bear Bryant.
There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go, if he doesn’t care who gets the credit.
Scripture:
Hebrews 3:13
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

5/16–Plato wrote the first sentence of his famous Republic nine different ways before he was satisfied.
Cicero practiced speaking before friends every day for thirty years to perfect his elocution.
Noah Webster labored 36 years writing his dictionary, crossing the Atlantic twice to gather material.
Milton rose at 4:00 am every day in order to have enough hours for his Paradise Lost.
Gibbon spent 26 years on his Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
Bryant rewrote one of his poetic masterpieces 99 times before publication, and it became a classic.
It is said that Thomas Edison performed 50,000 (sic) experiments before he succeeded in producing a storage battery. We might assume the famous inventor would have had some serious doubts along the way. But when asked if he ever became discouraged working so long without results, Edison replied, “Results? Why, I know 50,000 things that won’t work.”

Criticizing is a little man’a tactics. It takes a big man to refrain from criticizing. Belittling others shows just how small you and your thinking really are. I’m not much for bragging or boasting it on myself but I am pretty generous to brag on others.
A big man is not afraid of making others bigger. He doesn’t see it as a threat to his bigness. A big man doesn’t feel like he has to cut you down to make him feel bigger.
When you find the good in people and sincerely complement them you show to me your bigness and your greatness.
Philippians 2: 3-4. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
If I put you higher than me and you put me higher than you then we will be equal! It does nothing for me to see others fail or not do good. It does not add anything to my success or stature. Bringing down others doesn’t lift me up any.
Some people’s whole outlook is trying to find something wrong with someone. They have looked for the wrong so long the good seems to be hid from them.
It takes a trained her to look for the good and be able to spot it. It might take a little practice before you’re able to see the good if you’ve always looked for the bad.
Little minded people major in the minor! They take some little insignificant point and blow it up into something that it is really not. Some people are merely legends in their own minds. They have nominated themselves and voted for themselves but nobody else paid any attention. Their continual criticizing others is part of them trying to get attention even though they’re going about it the wrong way.

5/15–Walk with God and run from the Devil

Story:
An old lady had a hearing-aid fitted, hidden underneath her hair.
A week later she returned to the doctor for her check-up.
“It’s wonderful – I can hear everything now,” she reported very happily to the doctor.
“And is your family pleased too?” asked the doctor.
“Oh I haven’t told them yet,” said the old lady, “And I’ve changed my will twice already..”

James 3:8
