Is Moan And Groan All That You Do?

Moan and groan—how many of you know people that all they do is moan and groan? People say I’m not happy with my job. They say 87% of the people go to job that they hate. We have the dubious distinction in this country that on Monday morning between 6 an 9AM the heart attack rate increases over 35%!! People going to jobs that they hate. Their hearts tell them didn’t I tell you I didn’t want to go and they attack them?I can imagine that some of y’all don’t want to go to work next Monday.

People all they do is moan and groan. I’m not making enough money, I’m unhappy with my job! So, the thing about it is this…. all some people do is moan and groan.

I heard a story about some men on a porch. A man was walking by and heard the dog howling and whining. He asked the men why the dog was whining. They said he was laying on a nail. The man asked them why the dog didn’t get off the nail. He said because it wasn’t hurting enough.

I heard someone say that God gave us Ten Commandments but if He has given an eleventh it would have been “Thou Shall Not Bellyache”

5/14–Even the strong suffer though silent

Story:

Once upon a time a daughter complained to her father that her life was miserable and that she didn’t know how she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling all the time. It seemed just as one problem was solved, another one soon followed. Her father, a chef, took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire.

Once the three pots began to boil, he placed potatoes in one pot, eggs in the second pot and ground coffee beans in the third pot. He then let them sit and boil, without saying a word to his daughter. The daughter, moaned and impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing. After twenty minutes he turned off the burners. He took the potatoes out of the pot and placed them in a bowl. He pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. He then ladled the coffee out and placed it in a cup.

Turning to her, he asked. “Daughter, what do you see?” “Potatoes, eggs and coffee,” she hastily replied.

“Look closer”, he said, “and touch the potatoes.” She did and noted that they were soft.

He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg.

Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. Its rich aroma brought a smile to her face.

“Father, what does this mean?” she asked.

He then explained that the potatoes, the eggs and coffee beans had each faced the same adversity-the boiling water. However, each one reacted differently. The potato went in strong, hard and unrelenting, but in boiling water, it became soft and weak. The egg was fragile, with the thin outer shell protecting its liquid interior until it was put in the boiling water. Then the inside of the egg became hard. However, the ground coffee beans were unique. After they were exposed to the boiling water, they changed the water and created something new.

“Which one are you?” he asked his daughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean?”

Job 1:8

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

The Story Of The Minister And The Napkin Holder

Years ago there was an old Minister, Brother Hubert Sampson, that lived about fifty miles from me and I would go see him whenever I could. He was a barber in a little barbershop and next door was a coffee shop.     One day I went to see him in the shop was not that busy so we went next-door to the little coffee shop. This minister was full of wisdom and great illustrations.

There was a napkin holder on the table as there are on most restaurant tables. Back in the 1980s they were making little radios out of all kinds of things. It was just the style of that day. He pointed at the napkin holder and asked me if I thought they could make a radio out of that?

I replied that I was sure they could. He went on and said that we could put two dials and an antenna on it ourselves, but it wouldn’t pick up anything. After I agreed he continued his explanation. He asked me why we did not pick up anything. After I told him to go ahead and explain, he said because it didn’t have anything inside that it needed to make it work.

He told me that children of God that had God’s spirit within them had what it takes to both transmit and receive God’s message.

My mind went back to the old black-and-white TV at my home when I was growing up. We had an old outside antenna that we had to turn when we changed the channels on the TV.

My Dad would be watching the TV and I would be right outside the window where he could see me and the TV at the same time. He would motion me to turn the antenna more and when I got it at the right place he would motion me to stop.

It is that way today spiritually. We have to have our minds turned to the Father like we had the antenna turned towards the station.

Also, we have to clear our minds of the static of this life. We have to be free of worry, feelings against other people and other toxic thoughts. If we don’t we won’t be able to talk to God and transmit or receive.

5/13–Criticism

Story:

A little girl was watching her mother prepare a fish for dinner. Her mother cut the head and tail off the fish and then placed it into a baking pan. The little girl asked her mother why she cut the head and tail off the fish. Her mother thought for a while and then said, “I’ve always done it that way – that’s how babicka (Czech for grandma) did it.”

Not satisfied with the answer, the little girl went to visit her grandma to find out why she cut the head and tail off the fish before baking it.

Grandma thought for a while and replied, “I don’t know. My mother always did it that way.”

So the little girl and the grandma went to visit great grandma to find ask if she knew the answer.

Great grandma thought for a while and said, “Because my baking pan was too small to fit in the whole fish”.

How much more trouble would it have been just to buy a larger pan instead of settling for less fish? How many times have we compromised ( it settled) and went after the smaller fish in life when it would not have required much more just to have made room for bigger?

Make up your mind today to not settle for less!

Usually a petition has thousands of signatures, so too we need to approach God repeatedly with specific prayers.

5/12–Giving

Story:

I read the following poem once that I would like to share with you. I’m sorry I do not know the author to credit.

Opportunities Missed:1There was a very cautious man Who never laughed or played; He never risked, he never tried, He never sang or prayed. And when he one day passed away His insurance was denied; For since he never really lived, They claimed he never died!

How many reading this go through life playing defense? They are so afraid of making a mistake they don’t try anything. I say go for it because you never know until you try. I say play offense because life will only give back to you in proportion to that which have put in.

Scripture:

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

5/12–Can You Spare A Minute?

5/12–My uncle used to say if he couldn’t take it with him he didn’t want to go. The reality is we all are going to die and we can’t take anything with us. Therefore, we have to use it before we die to do anyone any good. Everything in life has an expiration date. Just like the date manufacturers put on all the goods they sell that tells the last date it is safe for us that we should use their product. There is no guarantee for us to use it after that certain date. Similarly, there is a limited time for us to be able to do what we intend to do. So we must get busy to get done the items on our mission statement, and our to do list and our bucket lists. I had a bad heart attack in July, 2012. They said I cheated death and that I was at Death’s door! I was in the hospital for about seven days and four of those I spent in the Critical Care Unit or CCU. You had better believe that I reviewed my life and all the things I should’ve and could’ve done.

I knew that even though I might have cheated Death that Death would be back for me again one day. Having this knowledge, I found it inexcusable that I wouldn’t be ready next time. So that’s what I’m doing at this moment trying to mark off some items. on my bucket list. No one else can do that for you. The responsibility lies in you and in you alone!

If You Woke Up This Morning, There’s More To Do

There are people who would like to finish college and obtain their degree, but think they are too old because they are forty.

They will make a statement that they will be almost forty-five by the time they finish.

Well, I want to know how old they will be in five years if they don’t get their degree?

The very fact that woke you up this morning means God is not through with you yet!

Quote:

5/11–God Is Always With You

Story:

Many people have a wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose”–Helen Keller.

There is a deep-seated need in all of us to sense purpose—even out of calamity. Jesus knew who He was.

The Lord wants to help you realize who you are and what you are graced to do. To ask someone to define you without first knowing the answer yourself is dangerous. When you understand that He is the only One who really knows you, then you pursue Him with fierceness and determination. Pursue Him! God knows who we are and how we are to attain our calling. This knowledge, locked up in the counsel of God’s omniscience, is the basis of our pursuit, and it is the release of that knowledge that brings immediate transformation.

He knows the hope or the goal of our calling. He is not far removed from us; He reveals Himself to people who seek Him. The finders are seekers. The door is opened only to the knockers and the gifts are given to the askers! (See Luke 11: 9.) Initiation is our responsibility.

Whosoever hungers and thirsts shall be filled. The structure of an army was just waiting for God’s command. God will not put His seal of approval on something until He is sure that it is His. God can fill your past, your childhood, your feelings of inferiority, your wounds, your loneliness. God sees incredible potential in you. The Word of God says you are capable. Within you is an army To reach for your full potential, focus on your areas of competence, have the courage to take action despite obstacles, and strive to improve continually by passionately pursuing a dream. What one great thing with you dare to dream if you knew that you could not fail? If you could wave a magic wand or take a magic pill what one thing would you desire?

Scripture:

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
