9/7–President Lincoln had an early political rival named Edwin Stanton. He called Lincoln the original gorilla.

When Lincoln was elected President he chose Stanton to be his secretary of war because he believed he was the best man for the job.

At Lincoln’s funeral Stanton said, “There lies the most perfect ruler of men the world has ever seen.”

President Lincoln had learned not to take insults personally.

Are You Afraid Of A Dog With No Teeth?

A man told the story about the man that dreaded a certain dog that would bark at him every day. It was a big dog but one day he grabbed the brick and when the dog came close just before he threw the brick he could see inside the dogs mouth and the dog didn’t have any teeth.

And many of us spend our lives running from things that don’t even have any teeth!!! Can’t do us any harm.

Wilma didn’t get much of a head start in life. A bout with polio left her left leg crooked and her foot twisted inward so she had to wear leg braces. After seven years of painful therapy, she could walk without her braces.

At age 12 Wilma tried out for a girls basketball team, but didn’t make it. Determined, she practiced with a girlfriend and two boys every day. The next year she made the team. When a college track coach saw her during a game, he talked her into letting him train her as a runner. By age 14 she had outrun the fastest sprinters in the U.S. In 1956 Wilma made the U.S. Olympic team, but showed poorly. That bitter disappointment motivated her to work harder for the 1960 Olympics in Rome–and there Wilma Rudolph won three gold medals, the most a woman had ever won.

There Is Right Way To Make Your Point

A member of a certain Church, who previously had been attending meetings regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, an elder decided to visit him.

It was a chilly evening. The elder found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for the elder’s visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a big chair near the fireplace and waited.

The elder made himself comfortable but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the play of the flames around the burning logs.

After some minutes, the elder took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone.

Then he sat back in his chair, still silent. The host watched all this in quiet fascination. As the one lone ember’s flame diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and “dead as a doornail.”

Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. Just before the elder was ready to leave, he picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire.

Immediately it began to glow once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it. As the elder reached the door to leave, his host said, “Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the fiery lesson. I shall be back at the Church next Sunday.”

9/5–Can You Spare A Minute?

–9/5–We might liken it to letting go of a bell rope. If you have ever seen an old school house with a bell on top, or an old church with a bell in the steeple, you will remember that to get the bell ringing you have to tug awhile.

Once it has begun to ring, you merely maintain the momentum. As long as you keep pulling, the bell keeps ringing.

Forgiveness is letting go of the rope. It is just that simple. But when you do so, the bell keeps ringing. Momentum is still at work.

However, if you keep your hands off the rope, the bell will begin to slow and eventually stop. The unforgiving spirit will begin to slow, and will eventually be still. Forgiveness is not something you feel, it is something you do. It is letting go of the rope.

Don’t Be On The Me Channel

The Me channel is a boring channel. The Us channel is much more fulfilling.

It is amazing how much richer and fuller life is when you get your mind off yourself and think rather on others. When you help other people, you cannot help getting help yourself.
