Don’t Make Someone Have To Throw A Brick To Get Your Help

A brick slammed into a businessman’s car door. He slammed on the brakes to check what happened.

The angry man jumped out of his car and grabbed the closest boy and yelled, “What was that? What have you done to my car? Why did you do that?”

The boy was very scared but extremely polite. and apologized. “Sorry, sir. I didn’t know what else to do,” he said. “I had to throw bricks because no one else would stop to ask for my help.” With tears rolling down his cheeks. He pointed to the parked cars and said “this is my brother, he rolled forward and fell from the wheelchair, and he is seriously injured. I cannot lift him.”

The crying boy asked the man, “Could you help me get him back in his wheelchair? He is injured and too heavy for me.” He quickly lifted the other boy from the place and put him back in the wheelchair. He also helped the boy with his bruises and cuts.

When he thought everything would be fine, he went back to his car.

Thank you, sir, and God bless you,” said the grateful boy. The young man was too shocked for any word. When he got out of the car, he looked at the bulging door of his car. The damage was very noticeable, but he didn’t bother to repair it.

He held the money to remind him of the message; “Don’t go through life so fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention.”

Moral

Life whispers in our souls and talks to our hearts. Sometimes when we don’t listen to it, he throws a brick at us. It is our choice to hear the whisper or wait for the brick.

4/15–Pick Your Battles

Story:

Scripture:

Hebrews 4:1-2

Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Humor:

4/15–A pastor was delivering a strong message on the evils of alcohol. Rather loudly he said, “If I had all the wine in the world, I’d dump it in the river.” Even louder he declared, “If I had all the beer in the world, I’d dump it in the river.” Finally he pounded the pulpit and ended his sermon by exclaiming, “If I had all the whiskey in the world, I’d dump it in the river.” The music director rose for the final hymn and said with a crooked grin, “Please turn to hymn 108, ‘Shall We Gather at the River?’”

Things Are Not Important, But People Are

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a playground.  “That’s my son over there,” she said, pointing to a little boy in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.  “He’s a fine looking boy”, the man said. “That’s my daughter on the bike in the white dress.”

Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter. “What do you say we go, Melissa?”  Melissa pleaded, “Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more minutes.”  The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart’s content. Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. “Time to go now?”

Again Melissa pleaded, “Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes.”  The man smiled and said, “OK.”  “My, you certainly are a patient father,” the woman responded.

The man smiled and then said, “Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much time with Tommy and now I’d give anything for just five more minutes with him. I’ve vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa.  She thinks she has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get five more minutes to watch her play.”

Moral of the Story: Life as a student can be downright hectic but as long as your priorities are straight, you’ll be able to make the most out of your hard work.

In the story, the man learned the hard way to prioritize his family on top of all others. No matter how busy things get, don’t forget to spend time with people that matters to you!

4/14–When you go into the world today, before you leave your home, promise yourself that you’ll find at least one miracle. Without any limits or bounds on what you think it should look like simply state for yourself your clear intention that of the many miracles that cross your path, you will recognize one of them!

Story:

4/14–Moan and groan—how many of you know people that all they do is moan and groan?

People say I’m not happy with my job. They say 87% of the people go to job that they hate.

We have the dubious distinction in this country that on Monday morning between 6 an 9AM the heart attack rate increases over 35%!! People going to jobs that they hate. Their hearts tell them didn’t I tell you I didn’t want to go and they attack them?I can imagine that some of y’all don’t want to go to work next Monday.

People all they do is moan and groan. I’m not making enough money, I’m unhappy with my job! So, the thing about it is this…. all some people do is moan and groan.

I heard a story about some men on a porch. A man was walking by and heard the dog howling and whining. He asked the men why the dog was whining. They said he was laying on a nail. The man asked them why the dog didn’t get off the nail. He said because it wasn’t hurting enough.

I heard someone say that God gave us Ten Commandments but if He has given an eleventh it would have been “Thou Shall Not Bellyache”

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 10:10-11

Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Can You Spare A Minute 4/14?

4/14–Can You Spare A Minute?

4/14–Have you ever thought about having a personal, inner thermostat or regulator? If something goes wrong you know your thermostat, God will bring everything back in line.

It is like a checking account where you put in deposits and withdrawals. If you put a deposit amount that was actually a deduction you won’t balance or reconcile. If the Lord chastens you and you put on the withdrawal side you won’t balance or reconcile.

You must learn where to put things and make sure they are in perspective. It is like a wagon wheel it might be down at the moment but will roll right back up, if you will give it time.

Be Sure That You Know Who Your Friends Are

Once two friends were walking through the forest. They knew that anything dangerous could happen to them at any time in the forest. So they promised each other that they would remain united in any case of danger.

Suddenly, they saw a large bear approaching them. One of the friends at once climbed a nearby tree. But the other one did not know how to climb. So being led by his common sense, he lay down on the ground breathless, pretending to be a dead man.

The bear came near the man lying on the ground. It smelt in his ears, and slowly left the place. Because the bears do not touch the dead creatures.

Now the friend on the tree came down and asked his friend on the ground, “Friend, what did the bear tell you into your ears?” The other friend replied, “The bear advised me not to believe a false friend.”

Moral of the Story: Being in a new surrounding with a new set of friends is indeed exciting if you’re a student. But beware of the people who are just posing as your friend. In the same way, you have to be supportive of your friends by standing by them in any situation.

4/13–Start Your Day Off Right Series

Quote:

4/13–Remember who helped you

Story:

Years ago there was an old Minister that lived about fifty miles from me and I would go see him whenever I could. He was a barber in a little barbershop and next door was a coffee shop.

One day I went to see him in the shop was not that busy so we went next-door to the little coffee shop. This minister was full of wisdom and great illustrations.

There was a napkin holder on the table as there are on most restaurant tables. Back in the 1980s they were making little radios out of all kinds of things. It was just the style of that day. He pointed at the napkin holder and asked me if I thought they could make a radio out of that?

I replied that I was sure they could. He went on and said that we could put two dials and an antenna on it ourselves, but it wouldn’t pick up anything. After I agreed he continued his explanation. He asked me why we did not pick up anything. After I told him to go ahead and explain, he said because it didn’t have anything inside that it needed to make it work.

He told me that children of God that had God’s spirit within them had what it takes to both transmit and receive God’s message.

My mind went back to the old black-and-white TV at my home when I was growing up. We had an old outside antenna that we had to turn when we changed the channels on the TV.

My dad would be watching the TV and I would be right outside the window where he could see me and the TV at the same time. He would motion me to turn the antenna more and when I got it at the right place he would motion me to stop.

It is that way today spiritually. We have to have our minds turned to the Father like we had the antenna turned towards the station.

Also, we have to clear our minds of the static of this life. We have to be free of worry, feelings against other people and other toxic thoughts. If we don’t we won’t be able to talk to God and transmit or receive.

Scripture:

1 Corinthians 2:9-10

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

Two dogs were out for a walk. One dog says to the other, “Wait here a minute. I’ll be right back.” He walks across the street and sniffs a fire hydrant for about a minute, then rejoins his friend. “What was that all about?” the other dog asks. “Just checking my messages.”

If you can’t find two minutes, can you spare just one?

4/13– Can You Spare A Minute?

Stop watering things that were never meant to grow in your life. Water what works, what’s good, what’s right. Stop playing around with those dead bones and stuff you can’t fix, it’s over… leave it alone. You are coming into a season of greatness. If you water what’s alive and divine, you will see a harvest like you’ve never seen before. Stop water on dead issues, dead relationships, dead people, a dead past. No matter how much you water concrete, you can’t grow a garden. T D Jakes

Be Careful What You Focus On

One day a professor entered the classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test. They waited anxiously at their desks for the test to begin. The professor handed out the question paper, with the text facing down as usual.

Once he handed them all out, he asked his students to turn the page and begin. To everyone’s surprise, there were no questions….just a black dot in the center of the page.

The professor seeing the expression on everyone’s face told them the following: “I want you to write what you see there.”

The students confused, got started on the difficult task. At the end of the class, the professor took all the answer papers and started reading each one of them aloud in front of all the students.

All of them, with no exceptions, described the black dot, trying to explain its position in the middle of the sheet, etc. etc. etc.

After all, had been read, the classroom silent, so the professor began to explain:

I am not going to grade you on this; I just wanted to give you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper.

Everyone focused on the black dot – and the same happens in our lives. We have a white paper to observe and enjoy, but we always focus on the dark spots.

Our life is a gift given to us by God, with love and care, and we always have reasons to celebrate – nature renewing itself every day, our friends around us, the job that provides our livelihood, the miracles we see every day…….

However, we insist on focusing only on the dark spots – the health issues that bother us, the lack of money, the complicated relationship with a family member, the disappointment with a friend, a.s.o.

The dark spots are tiny compared to everything we have in our lives, but they are the ones that pollute our minds.
