They said I understand the Bible in the right hand but why the fork in your left hand? She said whenever you eat and dessert is coming, they say hang onto your fork so she knows that after death the best is yet to come!!

9/13– Can You Spare A Minute?

9/13–When their son left for his freshman year at Duke University, his parents gave him a Bible, assuring him it would be a great help.

Later, as he began sending them letters asking for money, they would write back telling him to read his Bible, citing chapter and verse. He would reply that he was reading the Bible–but he still needed money.

When he came home for a semester break, his parents told him they knew he had not been reading his Bible. How? They had tucked $10 and $20 bills by the verses they had cited in their letters.

Quote:

Story:

9/12–I heard a story about a sixteen-year-old young man who lived in Ghana. He came from a very poor village. All he ever wanted to do in his whole life was to make a difference in the lives of others. As a teen, he left home in search of riches and wealth to bring back to his village. He eventually ended up working on a cocoa plantation.

For seven years, he had no contact with his friends or his family. One day he returned to the village. The people gathered around, and someone asked, “What do you have to show for seven years of being away? What did you bring us? Where are the riches?”

The young man responded by “reaching into his pocket and pulling out three tiny seeds.

“Is this all you have to show? Three tiny seeds?” someone asked.

Without speaking a word, he turned, went to the family hut, and planted those three seeds nearby. From those seeds grew the first cocoa plant to be cultivated in his nation. And the second and third as well. Today, cocoa is one of the primary crops in Ghana.

According to legend, it was started by one African man who planted three tiny seeds.

Dr. Munroe told me that story and said, “Go plant some seeds. Go do some positive things for others. God’s going to bless you.

Remember, there are some people who will say they’re going to help you in life, but they really won’t. Don’t depend “on them because in many cases they won’t have the information, the wisdom, or the insight to help you get where you need to go. Why? Because they are seedless. There are other people who will bless you, for they will give you the seeds of life. These are the people who will connect to your dream and your passion and help you move forward.

When you go to the supermarket, sometimes you’ll see two kinds of fruit, seedless fruit and fruit with seeds, but you don’t know the difference until you look inside.

And that’s the way it is with certain people. You don’t really know who they are until you look within them.

I want you to plant yourself like a seed because, like a seed, the outer shell is going to die off, and when “that happens you will cast off all of your past negative experiences. You’re going to become grounded in what your purpose is and what you’re supposed to do. And you’re going to endure some long winter nights and some hot summer days.

There’s a price you’ll pay for living your dream. You’ll have to make some sacrifices, but it will be worth it if you’re willing to stay committed. You’re going to take root. When you’re rooted, you’ll become fully committed, and you’ll be unswayable. No one will be able to talk you out of achieving your purpose. One day, you’re going to come up through the soil, you’ll start to rise, to take action, and the momentum will carry you forward. When you surface, you’ll see the results of “your efforts, and you’ll know that you’re ready to make a difference.

You’ll be ready to plant some positive things—seeds—in other people.”

9/12–Can You Spare A Minute ?

9/12–“I am reminded of a famous television commercial of many years ago for the financial services firm E. F. Hutton that depicts a pair of businessmen in a busy restaurant trying to talk over the din of clanking silverware, loud waiters, and neighboring table conversations. One of the men says to his colleague, “Well, my broker is E. F. Hutton, and E. F. Hutton says . . . ” The place goes silent—waiters stop taking orders, busboys stop clearing tables, diners stop speaking—while everyone in the room turns to take in the advice, and an announcer’s voice intones: “When E. F. Hutton talks, people listen”

Seek The Gift Of Compassion

Compassion is love in action. It’s more than just feeling sorry for someone—it’s allowing the pain of others to touch your heart deeply enough that you are moved to respond. True compassion is the bridge that connects us to one another, reminding us that we are not meant to walk this life alone.

When Jesus walked the earth, Scripture often says He was “moved with compassion.” That movement always led to action—healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and comforting the broken. Compassion doesn’t just recognize suffering; it steps forward to help.

In a world that can often feel cold and self-centered, compassion is a powerful light. A kind word, a listening ear, or a gentle smile may not seem like much, but to someone struggling, it could be everything. Compassion multiplies hope and brings healing where despair once lived.

Today, on September 12, let compassion guide your steps. See beyond your own needs and notice the burdens others carry. Whether through prayer, encouragement, or a small act of kindness, let someone feel God’s love through your actions.

Reflection for Today:

Am I too focused on myself to notice the needs around me? How can I show compassion to at least one person today?

Remember: compassion may not change the whole world, but it can change someone’s world.

Blessed Is The Man In Psalms One

Do you want to be Blessed?

Psalms One
Blessed is the man
that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly are not so:
but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous:
but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Quote:

A lady once came to Billy Sunday and tried to rationalize her angry outbursts. “There’s nothing wrong with losing my temper,” she said. “I blow up, and then it’s all over.”

“So does a shotgun,” Sunday replied, “and look at the damage it leaves behind!”

9/11–If I Had My Life To Live Over

The following was written by the late Erma Bombeck after she found out she had a fatal disease.

If I had my life to live over, I would have talked less and listened more.

I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.

I would have eaten the popcorn in the ‘good’ living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.

I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.

I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.

I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.

I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass.

This is so true! In life there are no practice runs or laps. There are also no re-do’s. We only have one time through to get it right….so, we had better make it good!!..,,

9/11–The old expression, use it or lose it, is brought sharply home to anyone who has experienced a broken bone.

If an arm or leg is cast for a period of weeks, invariably when it is finally released, it has shrunk much smaller than its partner.

Why is this?   The muscles, not being used, shrink or atrophy.

So, too, with useful habits.   If we don’t continue practicing them they will become weak, just like those muscles.

The Power Of Temperance

In a world that often shouts “more, more, more,” temperance whispers a steady reminder: balance is the key to lasting peace. Temperance isn’t about denying yourself joy, but about practicing self-control so that joy is never replaced by regret.

Temperance is the guardrail that keeps us from going off course. It is the wisdom to know when enough is enough, whether in food, speech, habits, or even emotions. Proverbs 25:28 says, “He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.” Without temperance, we are unprotected, vulnerable to impulsive choices and harmful patterns. But when we walk in balance, we build strength, clarity, and resilience.

Think of temperance like tuning a guitar. If the strings are too tight, they snap; if too loose, they make no music. But when in balance, they create harmony. So it is with our lives—temperance tunes us to the right pitch.

Today, on September 11, a day remembered for its heavy weight in history, let’s choose temperance in how we respond to life. Instead of anger, practice patience. Instead of indulgence, show restraint. Instead of extremes, seek balance. In doing so, you’ll discover that temperance is not a chain that restricts, but a key that unlocks freedom.

Reflection for Today:

Where do I need to practice temperance—in my thoughts, actions, or words? Am I living in balance, or am I letting extremes rule my life?

Remember: temperance isn’t weakness—it’s strength under control.
