Can You Spare A Minute Or So 10/23?

A shepherd was tending his flock in a field, when a new sports car screeched to a stop on the road nearby in a cloud of dust. The driver, a young man in expensive designer clothes and sunglasses, leans out of the window and shouts over to the shepherd, “If I tell you exactly how many sheep you have here, can I take one?”

The shepherd looks up slowly up at the young man, then looks at his peaceful flock, and calmly answers, “Sure, why not?”

The young man steps out of his car holding a state-of-the-art palmtop pda, with which he proceeds to connects to a series of websites, first calling up satellite navigation system to pinpoint his location, then keying in the location to generate an ultra-high resolution picture of the field. After emailing the photo to an image processing facility, the processed data is returned, which he then feeds into an online database, and enters the parameters for a report. Within another few seconds a miniature printer in the car produces a full colour report containing several pages of analysis and results. The young man studies the data for a few more seconds and returns to the shepherd.

“You have exactly one-thousand five-hundred and eighty-six sheep, including three rams, and seven-hundred and twenty-two lambs.”

“That’s right,” says the shepherd, mildly impressed. “Well, I guess that means you get to take one of my sheep.”

The young man makes his choice and loads the animal onto the back seat of his car, at which the shepherd says, almost as an afterthought, “Hey there, if I can tell you what your business is, will you give me back my sheep?”

The young man, feeling confident, agrees.

“You’re a consultant,” says the shepherd.

“Wow, that’s right,” says the young man, taken aback, “How did you guess that?”

No guessing required,” answers the shepherd, “You showed up here even though nobody called you. You took a fee for giving me an answer that I already know, to a question I never asked, and you know nothing about my business. Now give me back my dog.

10/22–Someday Isle

Someday I’ll do this or that.

I wonder how many has been marooned and stuck on Someday I’ll?

Like Tom Hanks in the movie Castaway.

The cemetery is one of the richest places in the world. It has more riches that Fort Knox. Songs never sung, speeches never delivered, love never revealed, and talents never used.

I want to do, as the motivational speaker Les Brown encouraged, and to “Live Full And Die Empty”

I do not want to take anything with me I want to use it all. I don’t want to die never letting my friends and loved ones know how much I truly cared.

I want to be like a wet cloth that you take and wring very drop of water out until there is nothing else left inside!

Turning Anger Into Fuel For God

Key Verse: “Be angry, and sin not…” — Ephesians 4:26

Wisdom: “A gentle answer turns away wrath.” — Proverbs 15:1

The Big Idea

Anger isn’t the enemy—aimless anger is. Managed well, anger can become holy energy that defends the weak, confronts injustice, and fuels change. Managed poorly, it scorches relationships and scorches you. Today, let’s learn to use anger as a tool, not a torch.

A Quick Story

A blacksmith once told his apprentice, “The same fire that melts the sword can temper it.” One day a customer stormed in, furious about a delay. The smith listened, apologized, and offered a plan. Later, the apprentice asked, “Weren’t you angry?” The master smiled, “Of course. I just made it work for me.”

The lesson? Don’t suppress anger or splash it around—shape it.

A.N.G.E.R. — A Simple Framework

A — Acknowledge it honestly. Say it clearly: “I feel angry.” Naming the emotion gives you the steering wheel. N — Notice the trigger. Was it disrespect? Delay? Injustice? Identify the why so you can address the root, not just the smoke. G — Guard your words. Use a 10-second holy pause. Ask, “Will what I’m about to say move us forward?” If not, wait. E — Exit escalation. Lower your volume, slow your pace, soften your face. Choose a solution-seeking tone: “Help me understand…” R — Redeem it into action. Turn the heat into helpful steps—set a boundary, make a plan, have the hard conversation, pray for wisdom.

Three Practices for Today

Breathe before you speak. Inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 6—twice. It gives your values time to catch up with your feelings. Swap “You always…” for “I feel… when… because… I need…”. Example: “I feel frustrated when deadlines slip because it affects our clients. I need a plan we can both keep.” Put truth on your tongue. Whisper Proverbs 15:1 and choose one sentence that’s both true and kind.

Boundaries, Not Blowups

Anger is often a sign that a boundary needs to be clarified. Calmly say, “I’m willing to discuss this, but not with raised voices,” or “I can help, but I can’t do it right now. Let’s schedule it.” Courage with kindness is powerful.

When You’re Angry at Yourself

Trade condemnation for correction. Ask:

What’s the lesson? What will I do differently next time? Then write a one-line commitment: “Next time, I’ll confirm the details by text.”

A 30-Second Prayer

“Lord, thank You for giving me emotions—including anger. Temper my heart. Put wisdom on my tongue, gentleness in my tone, and purpose in my actions. Help me turn heat into healing. Amen.”

Reflection Questions

What pattern keeps provoking my anger, and what boundary or plan could change it? If I used A.N.G.E.R. today, which letter do I most need to practice? What would a gentle answer look like in my next tough conversation?

Today’s Challenge (5 Minutes)

Write: One trigger, one boundary, one next step. Practice: Two rounds of 4-4-6 breathing before your next important call. Speak: One sentence that is both true and kind.

A Final Nudge

Anger doesn’t have to burn bridges; it can light the way forward. Let your courage be firm, your words be gentle, and your actions be purposeful. Tempered people change the temperature of the room.

Quote for the Day: “Anyone can become angry… but to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way—this is not easy.” — Aristotle

Quote:

Be the change you wish to see in the world!

Story:

10/21–Perspective–seasoned by experience, you begin to understand what not to worry about. So that you can put your efforts into that which is productive and not in that which will energize your enemies by focusing on them and what they are trying to do.

If you start speaking to them you give life to them and make them bigger by focusing on them. You need to ignore what they are doing, and keep on doing what you are called to do. Because whatever you put your attention on you give life to. You make something or somebody important the moment you give it or them attention.

Whatever you give attention to you make important. If you want to kill something, ignore it. A lot of time Jesus answered them not a word. Let the silence settle.

Can You Spare A Minute Or So 10/21?

10/21–Jimmy Durante was asked to do a show for World War II veterans. He told them his schedule was busy but he would come do a short monologue and immediately leave for another performance. He finished his monologue and then started on another. And then another. The applause grew louder and louder.

Finally, after a thirty-minute presentation, he left to the loud applause of the crowd.

The director of the benefit met Mr. Durante backstage and asked, “What happened? I thought you had to go after a few minutes”.

Jimmy answered, “I did, but I can show you the reason I stayed.” He pointed to two men, each of whom had lost an arm in the war, sitting on the front row. One had lost his right arm and the other had lost his left. Sitting next to each other they were able to clap using the single hand of the other. Are you grateful?

The Power Of Patience

Patience is one of the hardest virtues to practice, yet one of the most rewarding. In a fast-paced world where everything is expected instantly—answers, results, success—patience feels out of place. But the truth is, good things still take time. Growth takes time. Healing takes time. Progress takes time.

Patience is not passive; it is active trust. It is waiting without giving up, believing that what you’ve sown will one day bring a harvest. A farmer doesn’t plant seeds in the morning and expect a full crop by evening. He works, waits, and waters in faith.

Scripture tells us in Galatians 6:9: “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” That “due season” is God’s timing, not ours. Patience teaches us to hold on through the waiting and to stay steady when nothing seems to be happening.

Think of patience as a muscle. The more you practice it, the stronger it becomes. Every delay, every setback, every test of endurance is a chance to strengthen your character.

So today, if you’re waiting for a breakthrough, a change, or an answer, don’t lose heart. Patience is not wasted time—it’s preparation time. The waiting is shaping you for what’s ahead.

✨ Reflection for Today:

Ask yourself, “Am I willing to trust the process, even when I can’t see the progress?” Remember—patience always pays off.
