Have you ever noticed how one bad moment can seem to overshadow everything else?
Someone says something that hurts your feelings. Something doesn’t go according to plan. You receive disappointing news. You make a mistake. And before you know it, you’ve allowed five bad minutes to spoil an entire day.
But remember this:
A bad moment doesn’t have to become a bad day.
Life will never go exactly the way we want it to. There will be interruptions, disappointments, frustrations, and unexpected problems. We may not be able to control what happens to us, but we can control what we allow to stay with us.
Sometimes we simply have to say, “That happened, but I’m not carrying it with me for the rest of the day.”
The Bible says:
“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
— Psalm 118:24
Notice it doesn’t say everything that happens today will be good. It says the day itself is a gift from God.
Don’t give one difficult person the power to steal your joy.
Don’t let one disappointment erase all your blessings.
Don’t let one mistake convince you that you’ve failed.
And don’t let yesterday’s troubles follow you into today.
Sometimes the greatest victory you can have is simply refusing to let something ruin your spirit.
Shake it off. Pray about it. Learn from it. Then keep going.
There is still something good ahead of you today. There is still someone you can encourage. There is still something you can accomplish. There is still a reason to smile, a reason to be thankful, and a reason to trust God.
You may have had a bad moment…
but you can still have a good day.
Thought for September 22
Don’t give a few bad minutes permission to steal the remaining hours of your day. Leave the bad moment behind and keep moving forward.
Make today count!
