1/3–Start Your Day Off Right Series

Quote:

Story:

Story of soldier wondering who was out of line when they said line up, & it was him.

Scripture:

2 Timothy 2:3-5

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

Humor:

The story is told that after sometime in the Garden, Eve grew restless and began to question Adam’s commitment to her.

She inquired, “Adam, do you still love me?”

Adam replied, “There’s no one else but you, honey.”

After thinking through the encounter, Adam inquired of God as to why He made Eve so beautiful.

God replied, “So you would love her.”

Adam continued, “And why did you make her so soft?”

God replied again, “So you would love her,”

Adam pressed on, “And why did you make her so loving?

Again God replied, “So you would love her.”

Finally Adam ventured, “And why did you make her so stupid, God?”

God replied, “So she would love you.” God has a way of humbling us when we need it most.

The Story Of The Blind Golfer

One of the golfers on the pro tour some years ago was a pompous egomaniac with the emotional maturity of a six-year-old. He could do nothing wrong and always had a quick excuse for any loss: it was a lousy course, the other golfers were cheating, the weather was terrible, etc. As if these faults were not enough, he was also not above hustling a few extra dollars playing amateurs in cities on the tour for $50 a hole.

One day he was approached by a man wearing dark glasses and carrying a white cane who offered to play him for $100 a hole. “Why, I can’t play you,” the professional protested. “You’re blind, aren’t you?” “Yes, I am,” replied the man. “But that’s all right. I was a state champion before I went blind. I think I can beat you.” Now the conceited one had not been doing well lately–he needed the money. Anyway, blind or not, if the guy was crazy enough to challenge him…well, why not? “You did say $100 a hole?”

The blind man nodded. “Well, all right. It’s a deal. But don’t say I didn’t warn you–you’ll lose your money. When would you like to play?” “Any night at all,” replied the blind man. “Any night at all.”

1/2–Argumentative People

Story:

A boy was so impressed by the Washington Monument he wanted to buy it. He offered a security guard the dollar that was in his pocket.

The security guard responded by saying, “First you can’t buy this because it is not for sale. Second, you can’t afford it if it was. Third, as an American citizen you already own it anyway.”

Something similar can be said for the blessings of God for Christians. First, the blessings of God are not for sale. He offers then freely through Jesus Christ.

Second, if they were for sale we could not afford them. Third, as believers, we already own them.

We cannot buy His Blessings – we already have them!

Scripture:

Proverbs 10:6-7

Blessings are upon the head of the just:

but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

The memory of the just is blessed:

but the name of the wicked shall rot.

1/1–Ask Someone

Story:

Church does mean something, you know.

In a certain mountain village a pastor wondered what legacy he should leave to his townspeople. At last he decided to build them a church.

No one saw the complete plans for the church until it was finished.

When the people gathered, they marveled at its beauty and completeness. Then someone asked, “But where are the lamps? How will it be lighted?”

The pastor pointed to some brackets in the walls. Then he gave to each family a lamp which they were to bring with them each time they came to worship.

“Each time you are here the area where you are seated will be lighted,” the pastor said.

“Each time you are not here, that area will be dark. This is to remind you that whenever you fail to come to church, some part of God’s house will be dark.”

Is your lamp lit?

Scripture:

Hebrews 10:25

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

BY THE TIME THE MORNING SERVICE WAS TO

BEGIN, ONLY ONE MAN WAS IN THE CHURCH.

THE PRIEST SAID TO HIM. “IT LOOKS LIKE

EVERYONE HAS SLEPT IN. DO YOU WANT TO

GO HOME OR SHOULD I PREACH THE

SERMON?”

THE MAN REPLIED, “WHEN I GO TO FEED THE

CHICKENS AND ONLY ONE COMES. I STILL

FEED IT”

THE PRIEST TOOK THAT AS A YES, MOUNTED

THE PULPIT AND DELIVERED AN HOUR-LONG

SERMON.

AT THE END, HE ASKED THE MAN WHAT HE

THOUGHT.

HIS ANSWER: “WHEN I GO TO FEED THE

CHICKENS AND ONLY ONE COMES, I DON’T

GIVE IT THE WHOLE BUCKET!”

All of us had more reason to sing than he, but he was the one singing!

Their thoughts were occupied, their agendas were full and he was… well, he was a blind beggar.

His song was all that he had. Though sightless, penniless hobo, he still found a song and sang it courageously. (I wondered which room in his heart that song came from.)

The blind man could be the most peaceful fellow on the streets!

Faith is the bird that sings while it is still dark.

And though I was the one with eyes, it was he who gave me a new vision.
